Composed of 76 species, distributed in seven current genera and the fossil genus Electrobisium Cockerell, 1917. Some genera are widely distributed, however, others are restricted to tropical regions.
Characterized by their body size that ranges between 0.6-0.8 mm in length, they present a circular depression located near the posterior margin of the carapace, likewise, only two trichobotria in the movable finger of the chela pedipalpal, the fusion of the femur and the patella of the first and fourth pair of legs, the aspect of the third blade of the chelicerae rallum, anal plate surrounded by the sternite XI and the coxa IV larger than the coxa I.

In Córdoba the family is represented by the species Cryptocheiridium mairae Bedoya-Roqueme, Bedoya & Quirós-Rodríguez, 2015, associated with detritus of ants Atta colombica Guérin-Méneville, 1844.
