@Science-God: Where Science Meets Faith...
and Occasionally Argues Over Dinner
Hello, wonderful people, welcome back to @Science-God!Â
The channel where we challenge everything—
from the origins of the universe
to whether God needs more credit for creating the cosmos.Â
Today, we’re diving headfirst into the
wonderfully bizarre and occasionally illogical
world of creationist cosmology.Â
I break down some of the wildest claims out there
while holding them up to the bright,
unforgiving light of science—because why not?
As I see it, science and faith are individually powerful,
but when you combine them,
you get something truly remarkable.
Science gives us the how, and faith gives us the why.Â
But... and this is a big 'but'...
when you ignore science entirely and
stick your head in the sands of outdated dogma, well,
you’re just fooling yourself. Nobody wants that.
Now, don’t get me wrong. The faith that Creationists have in Scripture is admirable, but often misguided.
Creationist cosmology has been on my radar for a while,
and I’ve been dying to debunk some of their more,
shall we say, ‘creative’ interpretations of the universe,
for some time now.Â
I believe that ignoring the natural sciences like
geology and anthropology, and basically everything
else that we've learned about Earth and its history,
is not just wrong, it’s like turning a blind eye
to the literal rocks that God has put under our feet!
Let’s start with a quick distinction
between geology and Paleontology.Â
Geology is all about Earth’s physical structure—
mountains, oceans, layers of rock, and plate tectonics.Â
Paleontology, on the other hand,
is the study of life’s history on Earth through studying fossils.
Fossils are the preserved remains of plants and animals from past geological ages.Â
They are a way to learn about the past, including how life,
landscapes, and climates have changed over time
Now that we’ve got that sorted,
let’s talk about creationist cosmology.Â
And trust me, the contradictions that pop up
when you mix some creationist views with
modern science can be... interesting, to say the least.
Quick note. Over time, I’ve become pretty well-versed in
almost every argument for and against the existence of God.Â
Now, since whether God exists is a philosophical question,
I'm not tackling that in this video.Â
If you want to go deep on that, I’ve got other videos that dive headfirst into the ‘Does God Exist?’ rabbit hole.Â
So, today I’m focusing on the more outlandish claims made by creationists as a whole—specifically, Young Earth Creationism, which, by the way,
says Earth is only about 6,000 years old.Â
Let that sink in for a minute.Â
They believe that dinosaurs had a front-row
seat to the construction of the pyramids.
But seriously, I’m not here to single out
any particular person or faith.Â
My goal is to arm you with the tools to spot and dismantle the flawed logic behind creationist cosmology.Â
Whether you’re debating a creationist at your family’s Thanksgiving or just trying to make sense of it all,
I’ve got you covered.
Okay, quick overview:Â
Creationist beliefs vary widely—
from those who reject pretty much all science
to those who almost embrace it.
But the one common thread?Â
They all believe that God or a deity
was directly involved in the creation process.
What we are talking about today is the well-established
scientific principles that creationists often reject—
things like geology and paleontology, that describeÂ
a universe that is way older than you can imagine.
Okay, so here's a super brief summary of understanding
life and humanity through an evolutionary lens.
The universe is around 15 billion years old.
The Earth is about 6 billion years old.
Life on Earth has evolved over 3.5 billion years.
Humans evolved from small mammals and
split from chimpanzees around 7 million years ago.
Modern humans appeared
approximately 150,000 years ago.
Civilization began after the last Ice Age,
about 15,000 years ago.
We’ll focus on the specifics of Young Earth Creationism because—well, let’s be honest—it’s the most fun to debunk.
I mean, 6,000 years?Â
That’s not even enough time to binge-watch
all the seasons of your favorite TV show,
let alone fit in 6 billion years of Earth’s history.
My goal here isn’t to bash anyone’s faith.Â
Because as I see it, Faith, when properly understood,
can harmonize beautifully with the wisdom of science.Â
The universe is vast, mysterious,
and downright awe-inspiring.Â
And the more we understand it,
the more we can appreciate the possibility
that something bigger might be at play.Â
Because denying science doesn’t
strengthen faith; it weakens it.Â
So, let’s use the best of both worlds.Â
Science helps us understand the incredible
intricacies of the universe,
while faith gives us a sense of purpose within it.Â
And who knows?
Maybe by embracing both,
we can finally figure out why the universe is expanding...
Â
Stay curious, stay skeptical, and remember:Â
Science isn’t here to destroy faith—
it’s here to help light the path forward.
