Title: My Mind’s Mountain Range; Shifting Terrain;
The Cartography of Mood
A Poem by Coon
Sometimes my spirit and mood roll like gentle green foothills—
soft rises, soft descents beneath an endless sky that thrills.
Then, without warning, I’m teetering on jagged cliffs—
sheer walls of black swallow every spark of light in crushing rifts.
With crippling depression...
Then again, sometimes the cliffs swallow every blaze of fire beneath my feet.
And then, at other times, It seems like I am standing above the clouds—
euphoria blazing like dawn across my feet in the snow‑capped peaks of the mountains below.
This shifting landscape seems to live inside me—
a trifecta of confusion: the quiet valleys, the brutal drops, and the dizzying heights above thee.
This is a poetic map for a mind that knows both shadow and sun—
perhaps a map of bipolar depression,
Type II, where two extremes become one.
