ARTIST STATEMENT/BIO
“Art is how I create space for myself in the world. Art therapy helps to bridge the gap between processing feelings and making the world a more beautiful place to exist. As a trauma survivor, art and art therapy has offered the tools and language to explore and reclaim my past while giving my work a voice. Through this lens, I feel accepted for 100 percent of who I am. Depending on my need, there are times where my focus is on the process. Other times, I feel more conceptual, which is more accessible while focusing on the product.
As a multimedia artist, I enjoy making art pieces with a variety of materials: acrylic, watercolor, canvas, paper, fabric, thread, ribbon, clothing fragments, beads, markers, pastels, colored pencils, wax, and more. I enjoy using recycled materials when applicable and often experiment with new materials. Although I embrace the digital art world as well, I frequently finish an art piece with fiber art as a tribute to my past and to the strong women quilters who raised me.
King Space Artistry is an inclusive venue where I'm able to express the different sides of myself as an artist. Through King Space Artistry, I share mixed media fine art on a variety of topics, design uplifting t-shirts for people to purchase and enjoy, offer unique commission opportunities, and dedicate space for art therapy with the opportunity for self-enrichment and healing."
