Taking advantage of an opportunity to showcase local art, the West Liberty Area Arts Council opened the doors to the Brick Street Gallery June 25th, 2021.
At least a dozen artists – most from West Liberty – have come together to place work in the unique gallery at 104 W. Third Street in downtown West Liberty, donating some art, some time and hoping to gain a bit of revenue off pieces created locally in a small building the group was filling up quickly before their grand opening.
“We want to highlight some of the cultural side of West Liberty,” said Deb Weiss, a retired West Liberty High School art teacher who is chairing the project funded by a local grant from the Joseph & Edward Ryan Memorial Trust.
The new gallery, located in a donated space formerly occupied by the Liberty Social Club next to Fred’s Feed, will promote the work of local artists while attracting art enthusiasts from throughout the area to visit West Liberty, a thriving rural suburban community of nearly 4,000 population that offers some unique stores and attractions including the artsy and inspiring Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre.
