ARTIST STATEMENT/BIO
“I always liked to draw, but ‘you can’t make a living’ by drawing! Retiring after 33 years of teaching special needs students, I started painting with Vada Baker at the Muscatine Art Center. Vada is the reason I paint and draw today! She opened up the joy of painting/drawing for me!
I self-taught myself Zentangle drawing while recovering from double shoulder replacement surgery. Drawing was something to do between the hours of two and four a.m. when sleep would not come.
My watercolor painting continued while I was on a world cruise tour. A lady from New Orleans held painting classes for days when the ship was at se. We painted watercolor on washi paper of flowers, animals, buildings, etc. along our travel route. Twenty plus paintings later, I returned from an unbelievable experience.
I continue to learn new water color techniques from Vada’s Sunday classes at the Art Center and fill drawing journals with Zentangle drawing – black and white and color-washed.”
