ARTIST STATEMENT/BIO
Megan Lindeman is an artist from Iowa City, Iowa. She is a volunteer curator for Brick Street Gallery along with Breonna McMahon Drake.
Here’s Megan’s Artist Statement:
“I got lodged in Iowa after going to school and meeting some awesome sauce people. My mom was pretty crafty in a bunch of different areas, and I grew up watching her play with different mediums. I would hang out with her while she was making art and often joined in doing my own thing or helping her. To her there isn’t a question of if she can make something, it’s just how to go about it. I’ve always loved that and aspire to feel freer to try whatever random project sparks my interest, but the fear of imperfection stopped me.
Hanging with my friend Breonna, and volunteering at the gallery with her has been really helpful for getting past that fear of imperfection. Breonna and I started doing art nights pretty regularly and having someone to work with and have fun with has been great. The pressure of trying a new thing and needing to be perfect is lessened when someone is there learning with you, and holding you accountable to actually start and appreciate the projects you make. Plus, it’s so cool to see her process from start to finish. That has really helped me get more into art, and makes me optimistic for myself expression in the future! I hope to work through the list of ideas I’ve garnered through social media as well as add chaotic little flourishes to my living space. It is so great to be able to create something with your own two hands that feels like a part of you."
