Betty Zimmerman
BIO/ARTIST STATEMENT
Betty is a life-long resident of the area, growing up on a farm near Atalissa. She has been married to her husband Lyle for over 66 years! They have 4 grown children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. As a child, Betty had a blackboard on the kitchen wall that she loved to draw on everyday. She graduated from West Liberty High School, attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, taught at Vinton Elementary for a couple years, and then married her Lyle. They moved to Sumner, Iowa, where Betty taught at Alpha, Iowa. After moving to West Liberty, and raising 4 kids, Betty took some art classes, including oil painting, at Muscatine Community College along with Delores Windus and Geri Ruess. Betty also was one of the founding class members of the original West Liberty Area Arts Council classes. She currently meets to do art and "art therapy" on an almost weekly basis with a group of local artists.
