1908: Founded by Giovanni Battista "Gianni" Caproni, an Italian aviation pioneer and aeronautical engineer
During the 1930s, Caproni became involved with Secondo Campini an Italian aeronautics engineer, who had been issued with an initial contract from the Italian government to develop and manufacture his idea of thermo-jet power. During 1934, the Regia Aeronautica authorised Caproni to produce 2 jet-powered prototypes.
The Postwar era brought hardship to the the Italian Aviation industry and the Società Italiana Caproni ceased to exist during 1950, however Caproni Vizzola, one of the company's former divisions, continued until 1983 when it was acquired by Italian helicopter manufacturer Agusta.
