Unknown Speaker 6:11

Good morning. Danko. How are we doing, man?

Speaker 1 6:12

All right. All right. We are ignited. You know, it's Monday morning. We had a restful weekend. And you know, it's time to get to work. Right. It's time to get busy. Amen. Yeah. Better myself. So I hope the entrepreneur is pretty dang cool. I like it. Yeah. Well, I got you know, I only I have my reishi mushroom tea with me. And I've got some coffee with me, man. I got a double, double and up. And shout out to Richard, that holds the door for us. And is a lot of times that our security station Richard, hope you're doing well. And he was listening to our show on Friday. Man, we had a great show Friday Juwan. We, we've connected up. Yeah, we've connected up with the monthly standard, which is a newspaper that's been being bet been published in Detroit, a local paper, the monthly standard dot news. And, you know, talking about local community things, and there's distribution of about 10,000 papers that they do. They've been publishing for about five years. And because of that connection, we had Rodney Pearson on our on our show Friday. Then Peter Warby called in, which is a well known DJ that's been in Detroit for a long, long time, Peter Warby. He's got his own Wikipedia page and everything else. And yeah, it was really cool. He called in. And he wrote a book called Summer on fire, a Detroit novel. And it's a fictional tale about some of the stuff that happened in Detroit, from different perspectives. And, you know, some of it coming out of reality. We had a really great talk, like I said, on Friday. So it's so interesting in life and in this business in the radio, too, right? Sometimes, you get these really big things happening, and sometimes you don't. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 8:17

It will go down. Right. So,

Speaker 1 8:20

so that was some cool stuff. But how do we keep that energy cookin? After the weekend, you know, I mean, we've got good energy Friday, we're happening, everything's going. And then we got to take a little break. Everybody's taking a break on the weekend. And we got to reignite ourselves on Monday, you know, start doing business again.

Unknown Speaker 8:40

I mean, I firmly believe that when it comes to igniting your so it's like most things, it's all inside jobs successfully inside job. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And at the end of the day, you know, I had a, I received a phone call from a good friend of mine over the weekend, and then a couple days before that, and one of my relatives and, you know, they asked me, you know, straightforward, you know, they were like, Look, John, we know, you're going through all this BS calm. We've seen your challenges. So they've seen what's going on behind the curtain, right? Yeah. So you know, you wake up, you have energy, you go out, you're serving people, you're building, you're making progress. People see you smiling and growing and doing all these things. And we know you've gone through it, and how in the world do you find energy? And you know, I guess there's two things I would encourage people to do. The first being is adopt a longer time horizon. Okay, adopt a longer time prize. Like, really ask yourself, what are the things that are really important to you that you want to see happen over the next 510 years? Right? Because what ends up happening is the bs.com and distractions comes for us all. None of us are immune to it. Right car accidents. happen family members, pass away people, people, we work with friends, people who are close to us, I mean, real close to the vest would disappoint. You know, yeah, 90% of the people that you're dealing with today, if we were blessed to live another 1015 years you're not gonna be dealing with. And a lot of it's going to be because of BSI. Some of it's going to be just the natural evolution of relationships. But you get my point, right? Yeah, bad things are gonna happen. And one of the questions I oftentimes post individuals when they're feeling distracted or feeling down, or something's going on right now, that is detonating their modus operandi citizens striking them, they can't focus is detonating their thought process. They're just at a standstill or they're malfunctioning. Right? Right. The question I told them is this, how's this going to impact your goal? 510 years from now? Will it really make a difference is what is going on the challenge as an entrepreneur because you don't have a particular resource, right? Because a particular decision needs to be made, or a particular skill needs to be acquired, or some BS calm has happened at the end of the day? Is it really going to stop you from achieving your three five year or 10 year goal? And 99% of time? The answer is no. Right? That's my responses, okay, then pump the brakes. For a moment, give yourself a moment to process and deal with going on Do not let the urgent replace was important. And that is oftentimes where you'll find your energy. You know, the other thing that I recommended to both of them my friend and my relative was look, your goals need to be omnipresent. You know, as human beings we are having 60 to 80,000 thoughts per day But Uber majority of them are negative. Don't beat yourself up. Negativity is hardwired in us. We can't help it. We're mammals. Right, right. What allows us to survive we're running from animals, we can run fast, there's nothing. We had to be concerned about where our next meal was coming from. We had to be like aware our hands had to be on the floor. But we had to be worrying all the time. It's how we survive, but it does not serve you well in the 21st century society. And particularly as an entrepreneur, right? Know what you have to do them a one stop beating yourself up. If you're getting nervous. If you're anxious, you go through moments of slight depression. Look, one of the best things you can do for yourself is happier. DECOs be omnipresent. Whether the index cards whether it be in your appointment book, whether it be in your car, when you turn the key, your visor, your bathroom window on your frigerator everywhere you look everywhere your eyeballs go, you should have your goals. I mean, even set reminders for yourself and your accountant to remind you about your goals make them omnipresent because they say you are what you eat, but you already think and you bring about what you think about right. So if you're thinking about the goals 24/7 When the bs.com happens,

Unknown Speaker 13:05

your goals reset you. When life doesn't go your way Your Goals reset you when something disappointing or something bad or something unanticipated transpires, your goals reset you. So why you may be thrown off temporarily for a second or two a minute or two or maybe even a day. It doesn't turn into an hour a week, a month or a year, right? Because your goals are so omnipresent. That that's all you're thinking about. And of course, you can't look at your goals 60,000 times a day. But you can look at your goals frequently enough to reset you. When you feel yourself going negative or getting distracted. These

Speaker 1 13:42

are longer term goals we're talking about right, John?

Unknown Speaker 13:46

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Because you have to have a vision. Right? No, the Good Book says it plainly you know about a vision the people so pairs, well, guess what? So your goals, so are your objectives. So what are your vision for yourself? So what your agenda for yourself, you need to have a vision, something that will inspire you, and grow you write something that will motivate you to become the person you need to be? Because look, we're all in our comfort zone. I'm in a comfort zone. You're in a comfort zone. Everyone listening, we're in our comfort zone. Right. Sure. And our behaviors, our thoughts, our itineraries, our habits and like some people so I don't have an itinerary. That's your itinerary, okay, we all have one. And those things have created our current situation. Wherever you want to change your situation. You have to realize that you need to change up your modus operandi. You need to do things differently. You need to have different beliefs about what's possible. You have to have different beliefs about the people around you and yourself. You need to change your attitude. You need to change your modus operandi. You got to you have to upset the apple barrel, if you will, in order to change up and get different outcomes. Well, if you and that's going to be painful, it's going to be on conference. You're going to be anxious, you're going to be fearful for no reason, right? Just because we're hardwired to be fearful. It's like, oh, this is different. I like it. Right. But the bottom line is, if your goals are not big enough, if especially your long term goals, division isn't big enough, you won't find the energy you won't stick to what you need to do long enough to become a different person and to adopt a different modus operandi, as required to achieve and progress in your life. And that's why these things are so absolutely important. So yeah, the weekend transpire. But, you know, I, the moment I woke up my eyes opened was like, no time. Why is that? Because before I went sleep, I was looking at my goals. When I opened my eyes, the first thing on my mind was my goals. It wasn't that I was tired, it wasn't that guy stomach a concern? I shouldn't Ha, wasn't any of those things. I didn't wake up anxious about what may or may not happen, or this need to be paid or that. I mean, no, the first thing I woke up thinking about was number one, I woke up with a spirit of gratitude. And then I woke up thinking about my goals. Okay, this is what is on deck today. And of course, I went through my, you know, I went through my itinerary this morning. So I mean, that's why these things are absolutely important. Your short term goals can be different, you know, some short term is to three months ahead, six months, maybe a year ahead. And those things are important because those goals become milestones how you track whether or not you're making progress. But the long term vision, those long term goals are where you draw your energy is where you find your focus is where you find your perspective. So you're not making decisions in the short term that could detonate the future that you're building, if you don't have long term goals. What do you take an Amen?

Speaker 1 16:56

So true, you know, when you think of when you say that, you're going to make a different decision, if you're not aware of your long term goals, or if you don't have any set, and you're gonna make pretty bad decisions, because you're not thinking long term for what you're trying to achieve. Yeah, yeah,

Unknown Speaker 17:16

yeah. I mean, playing chess, right? Right. Um, you know, having long term goals. In my humble opinion, it helps to be more creative. It creates adaptability. Because when it's like, if you're at the base of a mountain walking around, you really can't see what's going on around, you just see the trees that are there, you climb further up the mountain and gives you a bit more perspective, like, oh, I kind of see the layout of environments. I mean, you climb further up the mountain is like, Oh, I see how big this for this, Oh, I see where the lakes are or rivers, I see where this is that you get to the top of the mountain, you look down and say, Ah, not, I see. Not see the scope right now it just blows away gets his destination. Now I see clearly what I need to do. To become the person I need to become to do the things I need to do to achieve the vision that I have myself not curating for myself. Long Term Goals allow you to be at the top of the mountain looking down serving and everything. Right. Mm hmm. It allows you to play chess as opposed to checkers.

Speaker 1 18:27

Right? Looking at it from and, you know, strategizing how to get there, right is part of this. And there's those milestones that you talk about, and that journey that you're going through. And sometimes you'll achieve certain goals earlier, which boosts your energy, right. And something happens out of nowhere that's like, oh, wow, man, I'm just a little bit further than I thought I would be at this point. So when you're when all your mechanisms are moving in in unison, and your goals are intact, and you're you're networking, you're talking your positive words, you're not letting a lot of negativity around you, you know, then you're going to be you're going to be rocking it out. And you'll be clear, you'll be clear on what you are trying to achieve your actions, your words, your your your tactics are going to be in unison when you have that clear goal. Now, those goals, John, how does somebody set their long term goals to be realistic?

Unknown Speaker 19:36

Well, let's start with the most important piece of this. And it's your beliefs and your values. Because of your goals are not steeped in your beliefs and values as a matter of time horizon.

Speaker 1 19:51

That's a good point. So your goals your goals got to be with, you know, you have to be really in tune with what your beliefs and values are and Doesn't matter what your goals are?

Unknown Speaker 20:02

Yeah, I mean, so the first question I pose to individuals when they're looking to set goals no more, what are your values? What are the things that matter most? What are the things that you're most passionate about? What are the things that are deal breakers? For you? There is, you know, what are the things that just take precedent? over everything else? What gives you energy? Right?

Speaker 1 20:23

Yeah. How do we get there? You identify those by, you know, taking, having some meditation doing some, some thought, right? How do we, how do we sit down and write these things out? This is the part where I want to help our audience out and try to figure this out. So the questions are what, what

Unknown Speaker 20:42

a strategy that I ask people to employ, and it's, you know, right, so people take up a notebook, right? Take off the legal pad. And I just want you to write down your values, write them all down. And I want you to take the time, because the reason this is important to part of reason why we end up getting in trouble is because we're running to and from, or moving real fast all the time, because we've been taught by society, that should be moving fast, you all want to play, move and move fast. You're constantly changing from left to right. And so as a result, you're really not building anything, you're just moving around real fast, right? And we all know, you can't shortcut baking a cake.

Speaker 1 21:25

No, you got to, especially on this show, we know that, yes, you need

Unknown Speaker 21:29

the time in the oven. So you know, you have to sit, this process actually forces you to sit down for a moment and really plot out what's going on. So you know, one, write down the values, write down the things that you value, ignore the the racket in the background, do not ask anyone else to help you, this exercise is about you, your inner voice, right? write those things down the next and write down a comprehensive list. If it's 510 2030 things, write them all down, and then decide the top three. If everything is important, nothing is important. Right? Right, you got to sigh The top three. Because it's just difficult to focus on 510 20 things at one time, you only have so much energy going so much you can accomplish within a timeframe. So write down the top three,

Speaker 1 22:28

give us an example. Give us an example, give us an example of what these values would be for some of the people that you work with.

Unknown Speaker 22:35

I mean, so for some individuals is more time with family. A lot of individuals, they want to build a business to buy back time so they can spend more time with their family. Well, you already know, if that's the goal, your business is going to be modeled totally different. Right? You're going to build differently, you're going to put different systems in place, that a person that says, now my primary goal is to become a multimillionaire, that's the priority as quickly as possible. Right? You're going to you're going to manage what you do in your time totally, your bid is going to be structured differently. Right? Right. Right. So yeah, defining those things. Some people come to me and they say, Look, I'm, I'm very much interested and building something passively. That's going to pay me at some point whether I go to work or not. So I can travel the world. Good point, I want to pass a business. A lot of people invest in franchises, for example, we'll do that, right? Because the structure is already there. You got to plug in for the first couple years and do what you need to do need to hire the right staff need to learn how to manage and be a leader. But once you've done that, you can kind of you know, coast a little bit, so to speak, right, right, until you look to acquire your next franchise. Versus if you're building a business from scratch, man, you're beta testing, you're learning to market and you're putting the systems operating stuff like that. That's time consuming. It takes a while. That doesn't happen overnight. You know, so that'll determine the things that you invest in. that'll determine the type of businesses you built to write the type of industry you decide to go into. I love the restaurant industry love it. i Dream frequently of starting up a restaurant. But then I also know what is required to start up a restaurant. You got to live breathe, sleep, be the first one there. Lastly, being a restaurant owner is a lifestyle.

Speaker 1 24:37

Yeah, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 24:38

It's a lifestyle. It's

Speaker 1 24:39

so true. So true. If

Unknown Speaker 24:41

you see what I'm saying. So it's one of the reasons why I would never entertain that right now.

Speaker 1 24:46

Right? It doesn't like if you want to spend more time with the family, don't go buy a bar, right? That's not gonna happen. Right?

Unknown Speaker 24:57

That's why define your values. For literally ask them what's most important, and everyone's different, maybe your your primary goal value is to help people is to serve people. Well, then once again, there's different types of businesses you should be involved in, there are some businesses that are more altruistic than others, there's some that are more, I don't want to, I'm not about passing judgment here. But you know, there's just some things you can offer to the public. That off actually, you know, is an investment in themselves as opposed to the alternative, right. So those things should kind of determine your next move. The next thing you should ask yourself, as far as the time, you know, right now, the things that give you energy, think about the things that you've done and like, the experiences you had, and when you remember them, you remember them fondly. And they provide passion, they give you energy, you felt really good. You fell on fire, about those things. Or the flipside can be true, too. What are the things that you never want to see happen again? What are the times in your life you like, never, ever know, right? Online is and I will get up fight or flight? It ain't going down? Right? Right. Right. Right. So what are those things? Write them down? Write them down,

Speaker 1 26:22

give me give me an example. I mean, I love that I love examples, you know, so like, give me an example of some type of thing that would give us energy. For some personal,

Unknown Speaker 26:32

you know, I'll use myself as a personal example. Okay. Um, you know, my grandmother, pretty much. She was responsible for what I became in a formative sense, right? You know, a lot of people are born into love, and some people are born into circumstances, right? My grandmother was there to give me the love.

Speaker 1 26:56

Right, huge, that's huge.

Unknown Speaker 26:58

And the one thing and the one thing that I, that, that, that hurt me to my core, is at the tail end of her life, I felt like I wasn't as present as I should have been. I wasn't as present as I should have been. So a lot of what motivates me now is making sure that I have the resources, the wherewithal to be present, when I need to be present, for the people that matter the most to me, right to point to be present. And to be able to do, what I need to do and what I want to do that really, really inspires and motivates me to this day. Right? That's a great way to be something that's very personal in nature like that. You know, you, but not everything needs to be about trauma, that everything needs to be about negativity, right? Yeah, there. Maybe you've done public speaking. Or maybe you're a singer, dancer, skater, right? Maybe something you've done is performative. And you think of it like man, I was on cloud nine, I did that album clouds. And I felt really, really good. While I was doing that, yeah, you know, maybe you're a reader, you like to learn knowledge, information. Maybe you're really into tech, and you love technology, and you just get it, you can just start on some type of software, it program coding, and get lost in it for three, four days and wait and not realize what was going on? Maybe it has that effect on you. Right? That's called a clue.

Unknown Speaker 28:38

Number two, having a good understanding of what are the things that give you energy because people don't pay tops, people don't pay five star fight prices for like half. Right? Right. Your business needs to be profitable, your business needs to allow you to scale and grow and have an impact. So you can do things you can do for yourself and your family. Nobody's gonna be really good at a be willing to take the time to get good at it, take the time to develop the skills, take the time to develop conviction, take the time to do the boring, repetitive stuff that's required to be successful, even when you don't feel like it. So you better It better be something that gives you energy and it better align with your values. And so I asked you to write those things down. And somewhere in the convergence of those things, right? Your values, the things that give you energy, the things that you do well, right. What are the things that you do? Well, we all do something well, and somewhere in that convergence in that in those circles in that list, you're going to start to see a lot of the same thing. I guarantee you, you can't help it. You're going to see a lot of the same thing. And those things give you a clue in terms of where you should be directing your energies as an entrepreneur.

Speaker 1 29:56

It's great talk, you know, these, this this thing This is like the underlying factors of why entrepreneurs do what they do, why people take and invest that huge, huge amount of energy, before dollars are made, right. And if you don't have that clarity, you might not make it, you know, you might not invest that energy upfront that's needed, because you didn't identify the long term goal of, you know, wanting to spend more time with your family having the resources to be more present, maybe having the resources to, you know, just do more things that give you energy, maybe that's going to the orchestra or whatever. Right? So, um, you know, I love our talks, because they're so different every time Juwan, you know, and this one really has is really about identifying, like, how, what gives us energy, you know, and then using that, that, to push us forward in our goals.

Unknown Speaker 31:05

And stay Okay, and stay focused.

Speaker 1 31:07

I love it. I love it. I love every day, we get to talk together here. Juwan. And this is this is a great conversation and, and we come out with what I believe, some great information for the people listening, not only for if you're an entrepreneur, but whatever you're doing these these things apply to life. You know what I mean? And that's why we love having you on our show. What else on your mind, before we let you go, John?

Unknown Speaker 31:36

You know, what else is on my mind is 2022. And the fact that we went through this kind of jobless recovery, right over the last couple years. Yeah. And the fact that we had a situation where a lot of individuals advanced themselves, progress became exceptionally well off. And you had a lot of individuals who kind of did not do so well. Right? I'm not talking about the loss of life, but just didn't really progress much. Right? Right. During the pandemic, right. And, you know, one of the reasons why I'm so gung ho about entrepreneurship, and like, not everyone's ready to be a full time entrepreneur, let's get that straight. Not everyone is ready to go at it full time. It doesn't, you don't need to be a full time entrepreneur to be entrepreneurial. You're gonna have something on the side that you're building. You can have political, like, you hear people say a side hustle, right? And I really want people to consider adopting a side hustle, because I just firmly believe that the next year two to three years, it's gonna be very, very, very chaotic. Like, things were weird over the last two years. And so you're not really we it's still

Speaker 1 32:57

I mean, it's still weird drawn, you know what I mean? Like, this is a socially it's weird.

Unknown Speaker 33:04

Yeah, things are real. Things are good. But you know what things are gonna get really chaotic, because here's the thing. They come Snow was hitting the ground. And those checks are stopping. Right? So coming from Washington anymore, right. A lot of those benefits that people were able to use to kind of plow through this situation aren't come anymore, right. I don't really, I don't anticipate that. We're going to revisit that situation anytime soon. And you know, look, what goes up must come down. The economy has been riding high. The stock market's been riding high. What goes up, Danko must come down.

Speaker 1 33:43

Right. Right. We all know that man. It's like, Yeah, I'm waiting for what's up next. You know, I don't know. We don't know.

Unknown Speaker 33:51

Yeah, the real estate industry you know has been riding high and then out of control. Right? What goes up must come down. And so I you know, this is once again long term thinking right? Don't get caught up in the moment. Yeah, you know, be you know, one of my favorite animals in the world are ants, right? Yeah. Your Spring Summer and Fall ants are unstoppable they are nonstop workaholics.

Speaker 1 34:15

Oh yeah. No. Those bees to man bees to

Unknown Speaker 34:21

insane you don't say like, what what they're willing to do during that, you know, during spring, summer and fall at constant work, work work, but you know what the ants doing? If I winters comes? Yeah, and when winter gets here, I'm gonna be ready.

Speaker 1 34:38

Yeah, right. I'm gonna have float. I'm gonna have a filament for me.

Unknown Speaker 34:42

Yeah, so laser. What I'm saying is, winter is coming. Literally and figuratively. Yeah. And I would encourage individuals don't get too comfortable in your situation. Like, ask yourself what are some things that I can do? Where if some of the worst case scenarios transpire, I have something tucked away on the side, or I have something I'm building on the side, or I have some type of alternative going on. That was first and foremost, my mind really, for me, that's what 2022 is going to be all about.

Speaker 1 35:16

And you know, in its in its decisions people make for their 2022. And what they do every day is going to be different for everyone. Some people are less risky, some people are more risky, you know, risk takers, some are risk averse. So, you know, you have to define all this yourself. And

Unknown Speaker 35:42

what, well, what I would say to that is this. There's the risk of not doing anything. Right, it's far greater than the risk of sitting on your

Speaker 1 35:57

hands. Yeah. absolute

Unknown Speaker 36:01

risk of doing nothing is far are greater than anything that you can do to take action. Because, you know, the bottom line is knowing predicted 2000. Right. Very few people paid attention. So thus, we're not ready for 2008. No one predicted that this pandemic would transpire. Right? And when the when things go south, as they inevitably will, you're not going to be necessary beer to predict when that happens, too. But you better be like the aunt. Yeah. And start taking action doing something.

Speaker 1 36:44

Yeah. Well, I love it. Speaker 1 37:40

morning. Oh, yeah, man, we got to make something happen. You know what I mean? It's got to happen from within us. And you know what that famous Bible quote? Quotation, I feel like I don't want to miss say it. But it's something goes along like this. If if we don't do what is within us than what we don't do will kill us or something like that. So you got to chase your passion. You know what I mean? And I'll have to figure out that I'll find that quote better. Sorry about that. But yeah, maybe you know what I'm talking about. Alright, Joanne, you have a wonderful day. Take care. All right. All right. That was John Buford from next stop social. We're going to go to a song This one is our second our second or third day of playing Dolly. A second I think I think we played her third. This might be third but we'll have to go back in the records. But here we go. This is going to this is a Dolly Parton song we're playing a Dolly Parton song every day until she calls here we go

Unknown Speaker 38:52

Not canoes easily understand how you could easily take my man but you don't know what he means to me Jolie.

Unknown Speaker 40:00

Jolene, Jolene I'm begging you please don't take God please don't take him just go shoot you could have a choice of man but I couldn't ever love again he's the only one for me Jolie I had to have this talk with you my happiness depends on you and whatever you decide to do Jolene Jolene, Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene please don't take it even though you care

Speaker 1 41:21

alright DJ,

Unknown Speaker 41:22

yeah, that was Dolly Parton with Jolene.

Speaker 1 41:25

Alright, I think it's the third day that we've had Dolly Parton songs going forward, but we'll have to go check our records. But that's the third day I believe that we've been playing Dolly Parton straight. So we're gonna play a Dolly Parton song every day until she calls we're gonna give her till March 1 to give that call here to WMC K 248557 3300 is the number and we got Karen from Lavanya on the line right now. Hello, Karen. Hello. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome.

Unknown Speaker 41:57

Yeah, I want to Well, first of all by Jolene, do you know why that song was written?

Speaker 1 42:01

No.

Unknown Speaker 42:03

It was Dolly I heard her say on something that there was this woman at the bank that was kind of like flirting with her husband. Oh. So that was song was created because this was in way way younger years and stuff so

Speaker 1 42:26

well, I wonder how big his bank account was. And if that was the reason

Unknown Speaker 42:33

years ago, I would imagine dolly and her residence bank account is way bigger.

Speaker 1 42:40

Interest Yeah. What a good what a good song though. Really pretty song.

Unknown Speaker 42:44

It is. It is. Yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of performers, Miley Cyrus, who is her? Daughter's performed it and it's a little different and how she thinks

Speaker 1 42:57

about having a leg up. You know, having Dolly Parton, the godmother, you know, even I could have put out a couple tunes. I bet.

Unknown Speaker 43:07

That's right. Well, the reason why I called this I just wanted everybody to be aware, because right away this morning at 830, this morning, I had a phone call. And when I just said hello, the man had a very heavy accent. But he said he was from Medicare, US G's. So rather than right there, I thought, I'm not talking to this guy. First of all, I think if Medicare called you it would say Medicare. And when he threw that us in there, I don't know if he was trying to cover up his ex. Right. I don't know. wasn't thinking too. Well, I guess.

Speaker 1 43:46

So and but you know, you're the second one that said something like that, Karen, because Grace had a call like that, too.

Unknown Speaker 43:52

I think yeah, it was great. I remember a week or two ago. So I just stayed on the line. And I didn't say anything. And he goes Hello, hello. Like, shouting Hello. And I thought well, there's another thing. He wasn't acting very professional the way he was shouting Hello. And

Speaker 1 44:13

yeah, oh, my gosh, this is, um, I what I'm what I'm curious about, and how come we can't track back those numbers?

Unknown Speaker 44:22

To those come out of the country? Most of them? Yeah, but

Speaker 1 44:26

they shouldn't have a number. You know, they shouldn't have the right to be using a US number. And we can track them. And I think something weird is going on with all that. And how come in the past, you know, you couldn't have a number like that from outside the US. And if you did, and if you reported once, you know, and people know these this activity is going on, like where is the FCC and where are our protectors of this? You know, yeah, consumer protection agency or or what have you? Yeah, you know, I feel like We have the technology to stop those phone calls, you know, from ever being, you know, but I don't know, no one's really put it on top of their list of anything. But I think there's a lot of people being scammed and it should be at the top of the list. You know, what I mean? Because we're trying to protect our seniors are, are the ones that are being affected the most, because, you know, in our in, in the senior population, you know, when you would get a phone call from somewhere, it's a big deal, you know, and, and you would take it for what it's worth, and that it's the truth. And now we live in a world of untruths.

Unknown Speaker 45:38

Exactly. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I have written read on Clark Howard before to that. He said, even if you're on the don't call this. There's nothing the US can do. Because they originate out of the United States.

Speaker 1 45:54

Yeah, but they're coming in here. Like we, you know, how can you not block that, you know, this is the part that makes me confused is that, you know, we have all this technology to track and investigate and do every little thing. And all this nanotechnology and everything else. And 5g? Yeah, I, I just feel like no one really is paying any attention to it, because I think we could stop it. Because even if there's one call originating from that place, like anything coming from that place, or what have you, I start blocking it, you know, if I was in charge of protecting my US citizens,

Unknown Speaker 46:31

is speaking of blocking, sometimes I get some junk call, and then I'll block and then later on, another call will come. But it'll be a different number. But it'll be the same person. So they just make up, you know, somehow get those spoof numbers, there's some singing that they make up and just keep calling you. They'll keep calling.

Speaker 1 46:55

Now, I don't know. Like, are you picking up the calls? Even if you don't know the number, Karen? Sometimes,

Unknown Speaker 47:03

most of the time, I'm not. But sometimes if it gets annoying, and it's the same call, I, like, try to block it because I have a block on my phone, you know, yeah. But then they'll pop back up with the same old thing.

Speaker 1 47:16

Right? And somehow else? Yeah. So I just wonder, you know, why we aren't able to protect our consumers better? Because, you know, especially, especially if you're in age, right? Like, we've got to, like, look at that more. I even feel like there could be some kind of a on your phone kind of a blocker, you know, what I mean, some type of a different blocker and application that could be placed on it. But we got to be careful. Don't give out any information, folks, you did the right thing. Karen back bottom line is you did the right thing.

Unknown Speaker 47:52

And if you're on question like about your insurance, don't ever call back the number that they tell you to call back, get your insurance card out and call that number. Okay, on the back of the card, the customer service number, because our Medigap insurance, there was a call that came through and I was like, Is this fishy? Or what but then I called the number on the back of my card. And they researched it and they were trying to contact me. Oh, don't call that number, if they tell you to call this, this, this this. Just get your card out,

Speaker 1 48:30

get yourself get to the bottom tell

Unknown Speaker 48:33

them, You know what was going on? Could they check into it? You know, and that's one way, you know, good points, you initiated the call. So

Speaker 1 48:42

you can look at your all of the cards that you have have numbers on the back?

Unknown Speaker 48:47

Oh, they do Blue Cross anything has numbers on the back customer service number credit card number

Speaker 1 48:53

not to say that they'll answer it all the time, because the IRS is not picking up phone calls. Yeah. You know, just a little, you know, so sometimes you might call organizations that they don't have the resources to pick up the calls or right you know, they're running really lean or something like that. So, but you should still be able to somehow get a hold of someone at those organizations if you give it enough effort.

Unknown Speaker 49:20

Right. And if you can't do it, just let it go and see what happens because if it's on the up and up, I'll try to contact you even by mail.

Speaker 1 49:29

Right. Good point. Good point. 830 in the morning, they got you. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 49:34

somebody's calling because listeners I thought they couldn't start for nine o'clock in the morning, right? I thought it was nine to nine that they could do that. Well, I

Speaker 1 49:44

mean, they're obviously not legit. So they don't care.

Unknown Speaker 49:49

I picked it up I thought okay, maybe this is an appointment. I have somewhere something in office because, you know, it's the same area code as my area code.

Speaker 1 50:00

So did you hear? Um, after, after you had talked on Friday, Peter worby called in and talked a little bit about the token lounge.

Unknown Speaker 50:12

I did hear that. Yes, I did hear that. So going strong, still going

Speaker 1 50:16

strong. And on the 30th of January. There's an event next Sunday. A memorial for John O'Leary. And that's gonna be a bunch of different Detroiters and Peter Warby is going to be there. And so the token lounge it's still going

Unknown Speaker 50:35

there in the 70s. So you know, I don't know when it opened up before that, but gotta

Speaker 1 50:40

be the second generation running it now for sure.

Unknown Speaker 50:45

It's like, I'm assuming little strip mall on the end of it. And then I think next door, there's like a banquet hall that sits way back to the road that's got nothing to do with them. So most people probably don't even know it's there.

Speaker 1 51:02

Well, now we do we all do now. Tolkien lounge.com. That's how we get to it. You can find out some information. Karen good talking with you. Anything else?

Unknown Speaker 51:14

Nope, that's it. Somebody was turned off the snow and they'll be okay.

Speaker 1 51:18

Yeah. And the cold. I hear you. Alright. Well, you have a wonderful day. Thank you for the call. Karen. Alrighty. All right. Moving on. That was Karen from Livonia right now we've got Madeline from Shelby Township. Hey, Madeline. Good morning. Good morning. Nice to hear your voice. How are you? Hi, Madeline. You all right. Hi. Can you hear me?

Unknown Speaker 51:44

Yeah, yeah. Can you hear me? Yeah, I got you now. Okay. Okay. No, thank God. As long as I get up in the morning and still breathing. I'm wonderful. I don't care about the day.

Speaker 1 51:54

Oh, yeah. That's the right attitude to have. And I know you have a great, great attitude about the way you approach your day.

Unknown Speaker 52:02

Oh, I do. Because there's so many people that have a lot worse than me. Hmm. And the people that have been better than me, but I'm grateful for what I have, because can always be worse.

Speaker 1 52:14

That's the number one thing they say in your life that as long as you are grateful for what you have, you'll keep getting more. And it sounds like that's how life has been for you. Madeline, you know?

Unknown Speaker 52:26

Yeah, I try. I always try to look at the brighter side right.

Speaker 1 52:31

Madeline, you were my first caller. You're my first call. I just want to acknowledge Madeline was my first caller March 1. I always love hearing your voice. Thank you for calling. And yeah, go ahead. Sorry.

Unknown Speaker 52:43

No, no, no, no, thank you for that recognition. I'm calling about the Medicare. Yeah. I was called four days in a row, oh, boy, at different times of the day, and regards to getting a new Medicare card. And their question to me was, did you receive your new card? Oh, yeah, of course, they didn't receive one because Medicare doesn't do that. And, and to make a long story short, their question was being that you did not receive the cards, get your old card out. And we can confirm the numbers on your card to make sure that the right card is coming to you. So now had I given them those numbers? Of course, they would have had a party with my numbers. But I I didn't do that. I didn't do that. Because I said I never received a card before. Why am I receiving one this time? So after the fourth or fifth call, and it was four different days, different people with a different number. I called Medicare and they said no, we do not call people on the phone is to scam. Oh boy. So I just want to put that out again, they do not call anybody, right. And if somebody wants your number, they're gonna do whatever they can do to get it. This is the new scam.

Speaker 1 54:24

I didn't realize what the what what can they do with the Medicare numbers? Are they asking for your social security number, and this is just a way to integrate the

Unknown Speaker 54:31

Medicare. I believe the Medicare numbers are now replaced but by the Social Security numbers so now if you're crooked in if they're crooked enough to get your phone number, I'm sure they'll be able to be crooked enough to use those numbers do to harm you or anybody else.

Speaker 1 54:51

We just got to be really careful as and I know as as we get older we you know we worry about all these things. Right, we're worried about making sure our Medicare is okay. And all these things. And when somebody calls us and creates that fear in us, we got to be able to come back and realize that it's not true. These people are scammers. And don't give out any information to anyone that's calling you out of the blue.

Unknown Speaker 55:19

Yeah. And Karen was right, the best thing to do is if you get a call like that, and you're concerned about it, you'll call Medicare or Blue Cross, and they'll either confirm it or deny it,

Speaker 1 55:31

call the back of your card number, the number on the back of your card. And even that, you know, I you know, we were one of the tactics was like, give me your phone number, and I'll call you back some of these people now are giving their phone number and you're calling them back. They're picking it up. So even that is not a good way to approach it every time but sometimes they just will hang up if you ask them for their phone number because they know that they're not legit. Boy, we got to watch every single second nowadays, you know before people would have to pick pocket you physically now they can pick pocket you digitally. Oh, it's it's honorable. Yeah. World too many crooks. I hope that we find some technology and some consumer groups that can protect our seniors and people from being scammed. You know, I think that there's a way to do it. And I hope that somehow it gets figured out.

Unknown Speaker 56:30

Well, the best thing that we can do, if anybody calls is hang up, hang up. There you go. Or our best protection is hanging out or not

Speaker 1 56:40

even pick up if you are wise.

Unknown Speaker 56:44

Correct. Yeah, right.

Speaker 1 56:45

Yeah. It's tough to do. Me I don't I hope everything else is going well for you. Anything else that you'd like to share with the neighbors today?

Unknown Speaker 56:53

Yes. I made a tiramisu. Ooh. And it came it came out fabulous. Not because I'm a fabulous cook, but it came out fabulous. That i i season did with the locker of armor on at amaretto Oh, shoot, now I lost the name. Well, I seasoned it with the lickin liquor. And that's that's how it was told to me to do it right. Now. I would like to do it with another liquor. I believe they have lemon cello, which is the lemon flavored liquor. And someone said I can do the tiramisu with lemon cello. Which I would like to try

Speaker 1 57:43

an idea that would give a different flavor.

Unknown Speaker 57:48

Yeah, yeah. I, I've never done it. I don't know of anybody doing it in why I even have a thought to do it is I saw it on TV. I was on TV before I was interested in making tiramisu. And once I made the tiramisu, I have lemon flavored liquor in it thought I'd like to try it. But I don't know if anybody is done there. Because I don't know. Like when to add the liquor. Because with the tiramisu recipe that I have, you have eggs that you cook, and believe it's just a Yo, that you cook over a double boiler. And I don't want to add the liquor to the wrong part of the recipe, right? Because I don't want to miss the recipe up. So I was just curious if somebody has made it with Lemon Challenge for a different flavor of liquor. You get that depth bottles of liquor and I don't drink and now we don't we don't use the liquor. It's always been here. I had two or three bottles if I get company and insert them a drink, you know. But now with this epidemic. Nobody's going anyplace. And I want to get rid of this liquor because I don't know how long liquor last because I don't drink I don't know. Yeah.

Speaker 1 59:36

Well, it lasts pretty long. I don't know exactly. It depends on how well is bottled as well. Sometimes it can, you know, go bad, I guess. I don't know if there's air that gets to it. Maybe it'll get weaker. But as long as it's kept pretty well. It stays for quite a while I think. But this is an interesting request. So Madeline is looking for someone that can they've ever used lemon cello for their tiramisu. And when would you incorporate it? And if they could give us a recipe for that we would love to hear a tiramisu recipe on the show using lemon cello. Yes. All right. Well, that's out there. Now. I hope our neighbors can respond to that and give us a call here at 248557 3300. And I hope that we can answer Madeline's question about this. Anything else that you'd like to share with the neighbors today? Madeline?

Unknown Speaker 1:00:30

Wow, I'd like to say thank you for the good job that you're doing. And hopefully, the program gets stronger and stronger in the only way it's going to get stronger and stronger, is simply spread the word.

Speaker 1 1:00:44

And I know there's more and more listeners all the time and shout out to everybody that's out there because of somebody letting you know about our show. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So so I feel I feel the love. We're getting a lot of calls. It's going well, we appreciate it and Madeline, you're our first caller. So you're really special to me. Thank you.

Speaker 1 1:01:57

Unknown Speaker 1:07:11

Yeah, I'm just in the kitchen looking out the window.

Speaker 1 1:07:14

It's good. You're in your safe. Yeah, no,

Unknown Speaker 1:07:18

I'm not going anywhere with this boot on my foot.

Speaker 1 1:07:21

No. Yeah. How many more weeks we got to the boot.

Unknown Speaker 1:07:26

About two more, and then she'll check it again. Coming along slowly. You know, when you get a little age on you, you don't heal as quickly.

Speaker 1 1:07:36

Yeah, you just got to be a little. A little more patient. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 1:07:41

Yeah, you have to be patient, right. Okay, did I miss? Okay, I'd listened it but I can't call sometimes. Anyway. What kind of recipe did Aisha give this week? She usually gives one and I think I missed that day.

Speaker 1 1:08:00

This last one. When was the southwestern burger, wasn't it? DJ?

Unknown Speaker 1:08:05

I got that. What did you call him? This past week?

Speaker 1 1:08:08

I missed her. Oh, yeah. I don't know. She didn't. She didn't know there wasn't? No, not this last week. Oh, okay. Yeah, usually calls every week. She usually does not this last week, and there was some schedule stuff that she's trying to work out. And hopefully she can call back again. But, you know, sometimes people got to do other things. You know what I mean? And a lot of times, yeah, like

Unknown Speaker 1:08:33

Jennifer dropped off the face of the earth.

Speaker 1 1:08:35

I know. I know. Well, what can you do? You know, sometimes that happens. I know. I know. It happens and then you know if you're if you're working if you're working

Unknown Speaker 1:08:47

on her garden, I know she was all hyped up with this. Humongous

Speaker 1 1:08:56

we don't know. I don't know. I don't maybe she can did. Maybe she got maybe it didn't go so well. You know, maybe maybe in the midst of it all. It didn't end up being what? You know, everything was gonna be you're supposed to be right. And right, right, right. But it's always good to visual visualize. I'm excited about this spring and the garden talk that we're gonna have here on this radio station. I think it's gonna be a lot of fun

Unknown Speaker 1:09:27

to talk with in the garden. Well,

Speaker 1 1:09:29

I don't know yet. I gotta find some garden people. But um, you know, we had we had last year we had some folks that were from movie which was Michigan Urban Farming Initiative. And yeah, those guys might be some good folks to call in. We also have a lady that grows dahlias. And she's an expert in Hazel Park. She's growing dahlias. Like she's got. Oh, yeah, believe it or not, she's got like a whole lot. God devoted to wear a nasal far not far from where you used to live. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. So her and her husband are growing dahlias. And they're selling them. They're selling also the, the tubers, you know, the the roots that you put into the ground to grow these. So she's an expert and I met her at the Hazel Park, nighttime market. And they were selling

Unknown Speaker 1:10:26

you asked to get her name and address so we can go by and see. Yes, I will plant flowers and some parts here.

Speaker 1 1:10:33

Ah, yeah, she's Yeah, she does a beautiful job. And so those are some of the people that I'm planning to get on board to give us a call. And then hopefully we can get a hold of some of the different nurseries to give us a ring. And that's what we're working on right now behind the scenes is trying to connect up with some of the nurseries and different landscaping services. DJ

Unknown Speaker 1:10:57

Sharon from the Granges phone number. Did you get all of her? No. I gave him the member. Oh, DJ,

Speaker 1 1:11:05

where is the number? You don't have to don't repeat on line. Yeah, no, I got it down here. Okay. Yeah. All right. He's been keeping some of these numbers secret over here. I don't know what he's planning to do with them all. But yeah, I've got a whole list over here. And yeah, so we haven't heard from Sharon. We haven't heard from Sharon, but I hope she's alright. Yeah, I hope so too, because she was calling out clearly.

Unknown Speaker 1:11:29

You know, like, you're not like too bad. We didn't get a Peter and Janice's number from Alton Bay. Out in what was it? New Hampshire? Yeah, yeah. From the other show. I know, they kept all the numbers, but we have no way of finding out anything. So

Speaker 1 1:11:48

well. Also here the office, you know, we tried to find whatever was leftover information, and it was all gone. When I got my check. Yeah, took all the information of the old information, which is probably what you need to do. Because it's private information. Yeah. A lot of people.

Unknown Speaker 1:12:05

Yeah, it is. And I know, they kept some numbers, you know, so,

Speaker 1 1:12:09

yeah, it's important, I think, you know, sometimes, especially like a tight knit. You know, neighbors, like we have on this show, you know, it's nice numbers, if someone you know, maybe isn't feeling well, I haven't heard from him in a while, maybe, you know, we call him up and say, Hey, how you doing? Everything? Okay. You know, that's the kind of show we are, I guess is like, yeah, so different show than any other show. And you can tell a love everybody that, you know, cares about each other and is worried and as long long been thinking about the others in this community of ours here on the show.

Unknown Speaker 1:12:47

All right. And you know, I think Hiaasen would be very interested in that. The flowers to us.

Speaker 1 1:12:53

Yes, yeah. I asked her, I asked her to be on our show. Last fall, you know, it was the end of the season. And she was kind of finishing up everything. And then she said, Let Kimmy up after the new year. And I will, I'm going to give her a call and get her hopefully, to call into the show and also share her information about, you know, because we'll be able to start planting these things, you know, and she can even can supply the dahlias. I know, we're our big, big talk of the year last year, and you know, this year, yeah, I think it's a good talk as well. And having some experts tell us a little bit about gardening tips and what they're doing, you know, I'm excited about this year last year was it was okay for my garden, but not like the year before, you know? I don't know what did you do this weekend? This morning? Oh, well, Benny was having a playdate with his new buddy, Freddy. Oh, Friday, yeah. Friday, he met Fred at PAWS in, which is a dog, you know, overnight place. So he's been hanging with Freddy, you know, on the weekend sometimes. And he, you know, gets all his energy out with this guy, because Freddy is a little Boston Terrier. And so these guys, all they do is just, they wrestled the whole time. It's wild. And they just burn all this energy. And it was just something. But yeah, I had a great weekend. You know, we got to see some friends that we haven't seen for a while. And it was just beautiful to connect with some old, you know, people that we haven't seen and had some pay dates for the dog for my daughter. Everybody was happy, made some food, hung out, played some games, and things like that. I even did a dance workout on Sunday on Saturday on offer you offer YouTube. Yeah. It was like a 15 minute dance workout that me and I did together. So that was cute. Yeah, it was cute. And it wasn't easy either. It was not easy. It was easy for her. She was no problem in it but

Unknown Speaker 1:15:12

granddaughter likes to dance and she is in drumline in high school. Uh huh. And they have they practice a couple hours every other day. It's serious, plus playing the clarinet and stuff. So such good. But it keeps them in shape too, which is good. Oh, yeah,

Speaker 1 1:15:31

no, that's great, great for their whole body, you know, when you're playing music and that kind of stuff and being in a social environment, with others and working together, you know, because too many kids, almost all of them are, are sitting by themselves in front of the screen. And that's a shame and it's not bad. It's not going to be a good result for these kids later in life. You know, you got to interact with people. You got to be with people, people, right. kind of talk your mind do things. Yeah, nothing like being around people. Like you know, it's one thing to be in front of a screen. But way different to be in front of people. So

Unknown Speaker 1:16:11

see what everybody cook and today it's a good soup day. I mean,

Speaker 1 1:16:15

yeah, what kind of soup Julian

Unknown Speaker 1:16:17

bake. Great Northern bean with fake nut bacon ham.

Speaker 1 1:16:22

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's always a winner. Winner. There's nothing wrong that you can't go wrong with that. Right there. That's a magic mix. Magic.

Unknown Speaker 1:16:33

A big pot. He's having it today. All right, red

Speaker 1 1:16:37

X. Oh, am fresh cornbread on top of it. Oh, yeah. Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Well, I hope I don't know if you're getting any callers for Medicare. But be careful.

Unknown Speaker 1:16:48

No, I heard that. I don't answer phone numbers that I don't know. I just let the machine pick it up. And then they hang up. They don't leave a message.

Speaker 1 1:16:57

No, never smart. Why are you smart one

Unknown Speaker 1:17:03

did and told me I was gonna be arrested for something. Oh, boy. I know. It was stupid. I didn't bother you know. Yeah. Anyways, so I'm gonna make some. I'm gonna make some coffee, walnuts. Oh, somebody. A friend of ours gave us some heads up extra walnuts. And I said, What am I doing with these so nice. My daughter found this recipe. So I've made it before and it was good. Well, mix more.

Speaker 1 1:17:36

Yeah, the day. Today is a perfect day to cook, bake. Do what you got to do set up the week. Maybe make a couple meals, prepare some stuff, get ready. And get to the next step.

Unknown Speaker 1:17:48

Yeah, we'll see. So I turn the radio on and turn the oven on and off I go. But I was just wondering what kind of recipe I use Chicago did last week because she calls one in every week. And I write him. Yeah, down.

Speaker 1 1:18:00

You all cool. Well, I'm glad to hear that you like what she's putting out there. And I'll check with her and see how she's doing and see if she's got some time to share some more recipes with us. Yeah. All right. Well, thank you, Lucy.

Unknown Speaker 1:18:15

Everybody plays Yes. Has been ran up to my office and walked instead of outside. He said it was getting slippery out there. So be careful.

Speaker 1 1:18:24

Yeah, it is slippery. Be careful neighbors and take care of Lucy and Bill be good out there. Oh,

Unknown Speaker 1:18:30

yeah. You guys too. Please. Thank you so much. Congratulations, Mike is losing weight. Yes.

Speaker 1 1:18:36

Thank you. Yeah, he's he's looking thinner every day, man. I think he's doing the right things. All right. Take care. Take care. Bye. Bye. Bye now. Alright, folks, that was Lucy from Chesterfield given us a little update on what's happening in her world and letting us know that she's gonna be making some toffee walnuts later today. Give us a ring 248557 3300 Right now we've got Jennifer Crawford on the line from all things marketplace. Good morning, Jennifer.

Unknown Speaker 1:19:06

Good morning. Happy Monday on this cold morning. In Detroit. Yes, happy

Speaker 1 1:19:11

Monday. You know, it's so nice to hear your voice and you're always so perky and you've got so many things on your agenda all the time. I'm just always when I see you like amazed on how you handle so much work. Honestly

Unknown Speaker 1:19:34

you know, it is not a it is definitely not an easy task to manage so many things and this this year, we've actually hired more staff we have a vendor coordinator now that will be able to kind of manage, you know, the applications and things that people send in for events. I really love that one on one connection with the businesses so it was kind of hard for me to kind of let that go and but always having a lot of Great products of projects or small businesses, but it's definitely not an easy task. It's definitely not easy. Someone said to me on the other day and social media is that you make everything look really easy. And I'm like, no, that's just lack of sleep. But this morning, I had my coffee. And feeling a lot better than I have been over this last month and excited for the new year. I just woke up today with a lot of gratitude, and, you know, the energy and just excited about the project and the things that are happening for 2022.

Speaker 1 1:20:34

And you got, and you've got some comments. I know, you've got a whole lineup of events happening. And, and I'd love you know, we'll talk a little bit about these events here. You know, earlier this morning, on our first hour, we were talking with John Buford. And we were talking about entrepreneurialism, and you know, our show, our show here, I feel like is a show about helping people find, you know, good values on how to live life and, you know, directing their energy in a positive way towards others. And so, you know, John Buford calls in every Monday, and we talk about, you know, being an entrepreneur and how, how to get to that next spot. Could you tell us a little bit about when you were early in your entrepreneurial ism, was there some times where you felt like, you were going to just give up?

Unknown Speaker 1:21:31

Early on, and even now,

Speaker 1 1:21:34

even now, really,

Unknown Speaker 1:21:36

I even know, it's an honest, you know, just a very honest statement that, you know, entrepreneurship, it's a it's definitely a journey. And when I started, you know, a lot of people that that don't know, my story is that I actually started my business in my one bedroom apartment, and I was working my day job. And when I quit my day job, I didn't have any money, I just thought, like, you know, what, I'm gonna do this business, and I'm gonna, you know, if it gets hard, I'll just sell my furniture and live like that. But it's really hard to get people to understand your vision and your goal of your business. Because nobody sees like that vision that you have in your head, or what you see for yourself. Besides yourself, you know what I mean? No one sees that, but you But early on in my entrepreneurship journey, just with quitting my job, and everything is that, you know, there was a point in time early on, where I had no Wi Fi, you know, at my home, I didn't have cable I didn't have like, all those things. It was just like, me doing a lot of things from my phone and going to work into an office space. And just working there and coming home. And when it was, you know, when it was time to be done, and just really trying to like, go to sleep. You know, it was hard, it was hard to you know, kind of say like, the people are like, Do you really like is your passion really to help other people? Are you doing all these things and creating these events, to put people in front of like customers. And so it was hard for me it really was hard and just trying to get my messaging across. And just the day to day in entrepreneurship, there was a lot of ups and downs. And so I can remember one time being like, you know, what I'm going to go to, I'm going to treat myself and I'm going to go to like the dollar menu and buy something or go to, you know, fast food restaurants to buy a meal versus, you know, just cooking, you know, at home that I was just like doing because it was hard, I didn't have the money to do those things. I was investing everything into my business. And you know, I just wanted to quit, there was a time at an event was set up. And it was supposed to be set up and it wasn't and it was 80 degrees in this space, there was no air, the vendors were hot and ready to go. And I went home and I cried because here I am providing a service. And people are putting investing their money in me to promote their business. And it's 80 degrees in here and we cannot function. And so I really, really wanted to quit that day. And I was actually June 26 2014 I actually remember the day. I remember the day where I was like, I am not doing this. This is a waste. I'm just gonna go you know, to my job. The only thing that I do.

Speaker 1 1:24:06

Wow. So, I mean, on that day, what did what changed you from not quitting your entrepreneurial dreams.

Unknown Speaker 1:24:18

What changed for me is you know, after reflecting on the situation is I really developed a passion for what I do. And that was more important than any job. It was more important than food. To me it was more important than, you know, all of the luxury of things of like going shopping when people like I just want to go shopping or I want to get my nails done or I want to do these things. You know, the thing for me is that I was like I really love what I do. I really love the people that I've met, but how can I change it around where I love it, you know where I continue to love it where it doesn't feel like work, but also be able to deal with like these negative you know, like the things that happen in business or things And so developing like a strong like, support system, you know, I just had like translate, you can do this, like you've already, you know, taking the steps like you can do this. And so I just have to be mindful of that. Every mind myself, even today, when I get discouraged, and I say, I'm not doing this, this is, my, this isn't this, I have to remind myself, I think about how far I've come. And so the turning point for me was just like, I love this, I love to do this. And so I can't let you know, one day, you know, discouraged me from something that I love to do. And I, you know, I just wanted to keep pushing forward.

Speaker 1 1:25:39

Um, such a great story you just shared there, because so many people, I feel they gave up at that point, you know, where you were at. And because they didn't see, and they maybe didn't have that value, because what you were really doing is, you know, this big vision of yours, this big goal that you saw, and you said, you know, I'm not gonna let this little one day define my journey, you know, and, and my journey, right, because we're gonna have road roadblocks, you know, in, in all we do, right? And changing that mindset. And really, you know, you saying reflecting on like, how far you came to that point. And so, you know, that journey that's sharing that message here to our audience is really cool. That you were able to, like, get over that and keep pursuing your dream. And from 2014. The strides you've made till now are incredible, right? From there to here.

Unknown Speaker 1:26:44

Thank you. Yes, yes, it was, you know, I never gave up. You know, I was always the underdog in school. And I always was the person who kind of got like, picked on and I really, but always was a young person who always worked, I always had like a job, I had like two jobs in high school and all of these things. But when I met these people on this journey of entrepreneurship, they had great stories, and I could relate to them. And so many ways of like, you know, hey, they struggle with this, or, you know, this was something that they had. And for me, that just made me want to work harder, even more, you know, just like I always say, I root for the underdog, because I feel like everybody wants to have a true leader, everybody wants to feel important and feel that, you know, someone is listening to them. And so it's important to me to listen to these businesses, listen about their dreams, listen about, like what it is that they want to do. And that just helps me create and push what I do even more, and let people know, like, No, it's not a hope we really are for the business wants to see you succeed, and want to see like a national brand, or get to that level, where maybe you're too busy for all things Detroit or too busy for certain things, but you've actually made it and they're pushing through. And, you know, it's important to really have that great support system around you. Now, I wouldn't say that I have like a strong like, tight family support system, you know, my family's kind of spread out. But I've definitely come across entrepreneurs in the same situation that are just like, yes, let's like, let's do this, you know, and it is definitely hard. But reminding yourself, you know, you have to sit back and reflect and sometimes saying them out loud. That's what I learned saying it out loud, not looking at it on paper, not going to social media, not looking at the words that you've made, but like saying it out loud, like sometimes I say, Am I doing them up and then when I speak out loud what it is that I'm doing, I'm like, Okay, you're really your hands are really, really full. So those are just like a couple of tips and things I say like speaking to yourself out loud. And, you know, just trying to change our way of thinking and the energy is so important every day is not a good day. But the work is in the push through pushing forward pushing through. And that's where the real work comes in. Because it's hard to motivate yourself sometimes.

Speaker 1 1:28:57

I mean, that's just it, right? I mean, when you see everything is you're up against every wall, right? And you don't have you don't have food, you don't have cable, you don't have this, and how, you know, you you you push through that to say, You know what, this bigger vision, I'm committing myself to this bigger vision. And and with your your vision is to help other businesses and to serve other businesses and to create events that help promote local businesses. You know, which I love, all that you're doing, you know, so let's, let's talk quickly about all things. marketplace.com is your main site where you have hundreds of products from all different types of retailers, and makers, Detroit makers of product

Unknown Speaker 1:29:54

Yes, so Michigan makers, Detroit makers and small business owners you know, we carry their product Like whether they have packaged goods from like hot sauce and that type of thing, to handmade ceramic products to T shirts, candles, we even have someone who kind of makes these creative. Passport covers and luggage covers like just a variety of different things. And so like I said, we always we started all things marketplace as a way to help small businesses get their products out there. And it's been going really well we offer delivery service. Each business has their own their has their own store on the marketplace so that they have their own identity like exactly who they are. Because as I said, that's always important to me. And so we're happy to be you know, opening a new location coming soon. Hopefully, we will be opening in February, we're just trying to get everything together with that. But we're excited. We're excited to service more entrepreneurs who want more business owners to reach out to us. Yeah, we can help them with their shipping and fulfillment service, because that's what all things marketplace is about shipping and fulfillment. And we're actually going to be shooting constant in the space. If you, you know, need to take great pictures of your products. If you need to do a photo shoot, we're going to be doing that in the space as well. We'll be talking more about that as we open up.

Speaker 1 1:31:11

That's fantastic. Jennifer, way to go. I know that you're you've got a couple big shows coming up. And I just want to make sure that there's ways for our audience to connect up Is there room still in all things Detroit?

Unknown Speaker 1:31:28

Yes, there is still room in all things Detroit. And there's also still room for the Detroit spring Home and Garden Show. It'll be the first Home and Garden Show in Detroit, I think, in 13 years. And so we are actually curating a small makers market for the organizers. And we're going to have about 30 makers in there. And it's going to be a really great market. We'll be right in there in the middle of the home and garden Garden Show. But all things Detroit is coming up as well, April 10. And we have spaces for that as well. And if you go to ask jennifer.com That's a SK je and ny fer.com. And you go to our events page, you can actually apply for all of our events.

Speaker 1 1:32:14

Oh, excellent. So that's though that's the way to get to everything that you're doing is ask jennifer.com as k j s jennifer.com. Ask jennifer.com. And Jennifer is spelled J E n n y fer.com. Awesome. So people can connect to you if they want to be in the home and garden show through there if they want to be in the All Things Detroit event. And if they want to connect into the All Things marketplace system, where is basically like your like a mini Amazon for Detroit companies where you can? Yes. Right? That's what I feel like it is it's like, you know, an alternative to Amazon.

Unknown Speaker 1:32:57

Yes, an alternative to Amazon, we're still building, we're still growing, I always tell people the difference between, you know, Amazon, the only difference is a billion dollars. But for a small business, buy a small business. And we are growing and getting to the you know, we're really, really growing. And we want people to understand the value of shipping and fulfillment and what that what that means if you're a maker, and you are making your products, you don't have time to go to a post office, you don't have time to print labels and packaging, we are handling all of those things for you. And we're going to be like mixing it up and doing some really cool things this year, where you're able to really meet the makers of these great products. And so yes, Emma, we're mini Amazon, basically, for small businesses, and we want people to sign up for our services and you know, understand the value of what it'll have to have to add to your business.

Speaker 1 1:33:50

I love what you're doing. And because it's not on, and here's why I feel it is, you know, first of all, you created an event that was all about promoting local business right now you're reactivating something that's really needed in our city, a home and garden show, like come on, why didn't we have a home and garden show these last 10 years in this city like Detroit? You know, that's just doesn't make sense. You know, and so you're bringing that back to our city and connecting those dots. Well,

Unknown Speaker 1:34:23

I Yeah, well, I am not I'm actually so I curate events for it's through Gazette media, they're actually bringing the event back, but they've hired me to curate a market. So that's just another thing that I do with other with other events. So like all things Detroit is my event. I was doing an event with marketing the city, but companies like downtown Detroit partnership, you know, I have a great relationship with them, where they actually hire me to curate all of their markets, like market Fridays that kinda like square the night market at Beacon Park. And these are all yearly markets that I curate, and that I'm hired by other companies to do so that's just another service that we offer that there's some larger companies that wants to support small businesses, they want to create markets. And what they do is that they reach out to me and I actually coordinate and put the market together. And it runs really smooth. And we curate, and we have a certain type of businesses that we have for each event. So just another service, you know, that as Jennifer offers, and, um, we do a lot of the curation for some of these larger events.

Speaker 1 1:35:23

No, it's really great. I feel like by just connecting with you, I could I know exactly where I can buy anything in the city, at what time and wherever. So what a great resource, you know, like, knowing when the events are? And do you? Do you communicate that through your social media?

Unknown Speaker 1:35:45

Yes, we do. We do. We communicated a lot through social media. We're gonna communicate a lot of things through social media, I'm always on to social but yeah, no, that is, that's what we have, then we're excited want to be a lot of events, this is just this is we're just getting started, we'll be able to actually fully announce everything that we're doing next month. And so we're just excited and gathering all that information together so that we can make the big announcements about all of the things fantastic

Speaker 1 1:36:14

I, the show is really shaping up, you know, with, with you giving us a call on Mondays, talking about the businesses that are, you know, persevering through these times, you know, and we have to work together. And I love your business models, because you're supporting the small business, people that, you know, might not be able to invoice might not be able to ship it in time, but they make a heck of a product, you know. And so that's that you're you're taking care of a function that, you know, is the missing piece for a lot of businesses. So keep up the good work. If you're looking for a service like this, all things marketplace.com. You can go there. And I really want people to just check out your marketplace and see the variety of vendors that you carry that you have under there, the Detroit riverfront Conservancy and all their products, the Detroit Historical Museum and I know you're working with others. So you can really connect into all things marketplace and get a very good vibe for the local makers in Detroit and then purchase because of the very Detroit promo code 10% off right, Jennifer?

Unknown Speaker 1:37:32

Yes, 10% off. Very Detroit, all lowercase and 10% off to everyone who's listening.

Speaker 1 1:37:38

That's awesome. Thank you for doing that for our listeners in our audience. We appreciate it. And we look forward to talking to you next Monday as we discuss what's next.

Unknown Speaker 1:37:49

I'm looking for it right now. This is like the most popular recipe we've

Unknown Speaker 1:45:26

had. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 1:45:27

This is a big hit. Peggy if you're listening thank you for that recipe. And we're looking for a right here it is I found it. This was delivered on December the 30th. Actually by Peggy and the rice pudding recipe is we start off with the ingredients. One quart, half and half. One quart water. One cup sugar one cup, long grain rice, one stick butter, half teaspoon salt, two eggs, half teaspoon vanilla. I'm going to repeat those ingredients one more time. This is for Peggy's rice pudding. First ingredient, one quart, half in half. Again, that's one quart, half and half. One quart water. One quart water. One cup sugar. One cup sugar. One cup long grain rice. One cup long grain rice. One stick of butter. One stick of butter. Half teaspoon salt. Half a teaspoon of salt, two eggs. Again, two eggs and a half a teaspoon of vanilla. Again last ingredient half teaspoon vanilla. Alright, and the method mix the first six ingredients in a large pan. Bring to a boil. So you've got your half and half your water, your sugar, your long grain rice, your one stick of butter and the half teaspoon of salt. So then you bring all that to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer. Stir for 40 minutes stirring frequently. Then beat eggs with with one cup of water. Remove rice from oven and add egg mix to the rice mix beating quickly. You can also add raisins in vanilla at that time. Return rice to the burner and bring to a boil. And that's the recipe folks. That's for the rice pudding. Peggy's rice pudding recipe. Hopefully everybody got that clearly. And you understood it all. You're listening to ask the neighbor, I'm your host Danko. Unknown Speaker 1:49:34

Didn't you? Look at that again, where the eggs are? Okay, you're supposed to put the eggs in a cup and then add water to make a cup. It says

Speaker 1 1:49:46

from my notes. Ag Yeah, beat eggs with enough water for one cup.

Unknown Speaker 1:49:54

Yeah, you said beat the eggs in one cup of wine.

Speaker 1 1:49:58

Okay, no, you're right friends. That's So Patricia doesn't make it wrong. Yes, yes. Now um, the so we're beating the eggs. How much you put

Unknown Speaker 1:50:09

the eggs in a cup? Yeah. Then yeah, and beat him up and add enough water to make a cup

Speaker 1 1:50:16

make a cup that's a very important piece of this recipe I'm sorry about making that mistake Thank you Lucy for correcting it because that's kind of I mean if you added one cop, if it was in the way your whole recipe is gonna be a mess. So it will kill you I know. So just to be clear here Patricia beat eggs with enough water for one cup. So I'm thinking I'm gonna beat the eggs in the cup in the cup and then I'll add the water to make it one cup and then beat it beat him again.

Unknown Speaker 1:50:49

Yes, that's what you do. There you go. Peggy call plan I don't think so good. I think

Speaker 1 1:50:55

Unknown Speaker 1:51:23

Bye. Have a good day. Everybody be safe.

Speaker 1 1:51:26

Thank you. All right, that was Lucy giving us a call letting us know that you're supposed to take the eggs themselves and beat them first and then put them into a measuring cup. I think that's the best way to do it. And then you add the water to make it into one cup and then you beat them all together. So that's the way to do it. That's the rice pudding recipe. I hope you guys are enjoying it here's a song for Lucy? Choo Choo?
