Training & Resources

The following resources offer organizations and staff options for professional development at their own pace as well as discuss plans for group sessions. Pre-enrollment training will include professional development on 21st Century program, the curriculum and interventions to be used in the afterschool and/or summer programs, and training on licensing topics. This training supplements mandatory workshops by the Center for Out-of-School Advancement (COSA), the Ohio Department of Education training, and national training.

The COVID 19 pandemic is creating tremendous demands on teaching and youth development professionals who are used to working with children face-to-face. Last year's 21st Century programs hurriedly moved to remote teaching last year in the Spring. Many districts and teachers are still online and afterschool programs will be taught remotely. To respond to the needs of our out-of-school providers, we are providing a variety of resources to help teachers conduct exciting, meaningful, and effective online instruction. When we are back in the classroom, we believe that these resources will help many teachers provide hybrid experiences for youth.

Montgomery County Educational Services Center has curriculum and professional development resources to benefit out-of-school providers. This includes customized STEM training, which is already part of 21st Century applications.

Learn to Earn Dayton provides support to organizations through the Summer and After School Collaborative (SASC), providing knowledge-sharing, mutual support, and shared training with a strong emphasis on culturally responsive teaching.

The Campaign for Grade Level Reading has wonderful resources for training to support summer and afterschool providers. Learn to Earn Dayton is part of this national network and agencies can receive free training and resources.
