What is the Employee Academy?

From President Smith:

Good Morning,

My appreciation to Iris and the team from across the departments who have collaborated to develop the Employee Academy.  As we all are aware information and communication are important – and research tell us it is very important for the onboarding and success of new employees. As each of you meet and assist your new employees in fulfilling their job responsibilities, I trust you will be encouraging and supportive of the new employee program.  Sometimes it may appear that you need them completing job responsibilities as opposed to attending a college introductory session – but it is important that the new employee attend and feel supported.

The Employee Academy is One College sharing information and culture for the success of our new family members.

Thank you for your work in making Columbia State One College known for the success of our students, personnel and community.

Dr. Janet F. Smith

President

Columbia State Community College

From Human Resources:

In the Spring a committee was formed to look at how Columbia State can improve the new hire experience and provide information about all the many areas of the college.  In this effort, the committee created training called the Employee Academy for all new full time employees which will be delivered in six modules.  The modules and lead for each are:  Human Resources (Andrea Morrow), Academic Affairs (Tracey Hines), Student Affairs (Dean Adam Robertson), Finance & Administration (Jon Arnold), President’s Office (Gary Rothstein) and Keys to Success (President Janet Smith and Dean Marla Cartwright).

New employees are expected to complete the Human Resources Module on their date of hire (either the 1st of the month or mid-month, usually from 9-11AM) AND start participating in the other modules which will occur on the second Friday of the months of August – May from 11AM – 1PM.  Lunch will be included.  After the Human Resources Module, the structure of the Employee Academy is such that the new employee can begin with whatever module is being presented next and continue attending until all six modules have been completed.

No sessions during June/July except the Human Resources module (for employees hired June/July)

Absences should be minimal but if a new employee absolutely cannot attend one of the sessions, the missed session should be completed the next time it is offered.  For example, if the Finance & Administration session had to be missed in October, it would again be offered the following March.

The Employee Academy will replace new hire expanded orientation which had been offered in the past in August but it does NOT replace the individual meetings with leadership listed on the new employee orientation.  It is the president’s desire that those STILL BE COMPLETED.

The Employee Academy is mandatory for all new full time employees beginning 8/1/2022.  Please support your new employees in attending.
