Getting Started
Designing or Revising a Course
Want to design a course? Here's how:
Review the Online Learning Handbook, located in ChargerNet > left nav > click "Faculty" > go to "Handbooks" module in center> click "Online Learning Handbook". Direct link here.
This handbook provides an overview of the course development process, key terms, contact information and the course development calendar. More in-depth information is shared in the CTL2020: Course Development faculty training course.
Faculty Checklist:
You can mouse over the "popup" arrow in right corner and click to open in a new browser window. From there you can select the printer icon to print out your checklist. Or click this link to download a copy.
Course Development Process Overview:
Have a conversation with your Dean. Is this a high enrollment course? Needed for specific degrees? Was this course built or revised recently? (within the last 3 years).
Review the PDF of items you will need to collect and review, as part of the process.
Complete the CTL2020: Course Development training located in Online Campus
You can self-enroll in this training using the Discover tool.
Completion is required before the proposal forms can be submitted.
CTL2020 walks you through the required forms, as well as what to expect in the process, course design pedagogy, etc.
Submit the Adobe Sign request found within CTL2020. The sequence of signatures is as follows:
your signature (faculty SME)
your supervisory Dean
Dean, Academic Engagement & Innovation (AEI)
Disability Resource Manager
Vice President of Academic Affairs
President
Once all the signatures are finalized, you will be notified to begin course design meetings.
Meet regularly (weekly in Summer, bi-weekly at other times), create content, build in D2L, discuss with our Instructional Designer. This is a collaborative, recursive process.
Once all content is created, prior to the contractual deadline, then the course will go through our Quality Assurance (QA) review. From this, you'll get additional feedback to revise/update specific areas of the course, if needed.
When QA is done, then the course is complete. It becomes our new "master copy" and the semester versions can be copied over and request for payment can be made for you.
Congratulations!
