American has 60 Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft in the fleet with 40 on order. The 7M8 all have Boeing Sky Interior, Boeing's Space Bins, and power ports and USB ports are at every seat.  All 7M8s are equipped with Viasat satellite Wi-fi and powered by the CFMI LEAP-1B engines. The IFE onboard is free to stream on your personal device.

American Airlines will be modifying the first class cabin on the MAX aircraft. The new modifications will add a personal device holder on the seat back and additionally add a USB port to help passengers keep their personal device charged. A drink tray to the back center armrest will be added to give first class passengers more options for storing drinks. American Airlines is also fixing the storage space under the first-class seats by removing the support bar. Extra padding for more comfort will be added to the first class seats. Row 1 will be moved back for extra legroom. Row 10 will no longer be Main Cabin Extra. And a new cabin class divider will be installed bearing the American Flight Symbol. This Project is known as Kodiak

American was the first airline to fly the MAX after the grounding in 2019. Passenger service began on December 29, 2020.
