American has 102 Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft in the fleet with 1 on order. The 7M8 all have Boeing Sky Interior, Boeing's Space Bins, and power ports and USB ports are at every seat.  All 7M8s are equipped with Viasat satellite Wi-fi and powered by the CFMI LEAP-1B engines. The IFE onboard is free to stream on your personal device.

However, in August 2026 American made the decision to reintroduce seatback screens across its narrowbody fleet starting in 2028, featuring 4K displays, Bluetooth audio, Starlink Wi-Fi and USB-C charging. 

American was the first airline to fly the MAX after the grounding in 2019. Passenger service began on December 29, 2020
