The A320 fleet was inherited from the merger with US Airways in 2015. Currently there are 48 in the fleet in two different configurations. The legacy USAir fleet is powered by the CFM56-5B3/P engines and are EOW certified. The legacy America West fleet is powered by the IAE V2533-A5 engines. Both types use wing tip fences. 

All A320s are equipped with ViaSat satellite Wi-Fi and IFE onboard is free to stream on your personal device. 

On March 4, 2024, American Airlines announced it will retrofit the A319 and A320 fleets with an enhanced cabin featuring more premium seats, larger Airbus XL overhead bins, Mood lighting, ViaSat Wi-Fi, and Power at every seat with IFE free to stream to your personal devise.  

However, in August 2026 American made the decision to reintroduce seatback screens across its narrowbody fleet starting in 2028, featuring 4K displays, Bluetooth audio, Starlink Wi-Fi and USB-C charging.

12 First Class Seats width of 21 inches, a seat pitch (legroom) of 38 inches, and up to 6 inches of recline.
