Haese Mathematics 3 - Chapter 7C & 7E, page 143
You will use these skills in computer programming, household budgeting, landscaping, accounting and finance
You will be able to:
Identify and simplify like terms
Transpose the equation to solve for the variable in 2 or more steps
Solve equations involving expanding brackets
Solve equations with variables on both sides
Key Vocabulary:
opposite operation, transposing, equation, like terms, reciprocal
Example 2 Example 3
2x = 5x + 3 2x - 3 = 4x + 2
0 = 5x -2x +3 move the 2x first -3 = 4x - 2x + 2
-3 = 3x then we move the 2 -3 -2 = 2x
-3/3 = x -5 = 2x
-1 = x (Ans) -5/2 = x
