You will use these skills in home budgeting, finance, money handling
You will be able to:
Compare two numbers positive-positive, negative-positive, negative-negative and determine the right order,
Place values in a number line
Part 1-
Research all the different types of currency bank notes and coins we currently use in Italy and draw and list them in a table including the values
Order each of these from smallest to largest value on a number line (make sure you space your numbers out evenly and in correct proportion)
Create a poster of your number line, drawing each currency on the poster
Part 2 -
Scenario 1 - each week your parents give you pocket money of 15€ to save in your piggy bank
Draw a table of results adding a row for each week's payment up to 10 weeks and add the total amount of savings by the end of 10 weeks
Find an item of clothing or object (or several objects) of your desire that you could spend the money on and note the cost
Answer the following questions:
Can you afford the item, items?
How much change would you receive if so or how much more would you need to save to gain the item? List this in terms of negative and positive numbers
How many more weeks would you need to save for if you were to buy another item of your desire with a similar price?
Part 3 -
Drawing a new number line, add values from -20 to +20
Placing a dot at +20, move 25 places to the left then place another dot. What number value are you at?
Move 3 places to the right, what number now?
Scenario - you have 20€ and you want to buy an item that costs 25€. You agree to pay your parents back the missing amount of money. How much is it? Write the two numbers (20€ and money you will owe) in terms of negative and positive numbers.
The item is actually on sale for 23€. How much will you owe your parents now?
List all numbers noted above in order from smallest to largest (hint: there are 5 numbers to list).
Part 4 -
Using the number line from part 3, answer the following questions:
Starting at +15 round up to the nearest 10
Starting at +12 round up to the nearest 5
Starting at -5 round down to the nearest 10
Starting at -14 round down to the nearest 10
