If you are:
A veteran or member of US armed forces
Between the ages of 18-75 years old
Have a diagnosis of MDD and PTSD/trauma
The purpose of this study is to understand brain connections, thought processes, and symptoms in veterans with both PTSD and depression using low doses of ketamine infusions. The RISE Lab presented the first evidence that ketamine infusions are effective for the rapid reduction of both PTSD and MDD symptoms in treatment resistant individuals with PTSD+MDD. In this pivotal study, we demonstrated that six ketamine infusions in participants with PTSD+MDD (n=15) results in significant improvement of both PTSD+MDD symptoms and cognitive function.
Participants will received 6 infusions of either ketamine or saline over the course of 3 weeks. Participants will also undergo clinical assessments, brain imaging, cognitive functioning tasks, and questions regarding mental health symptoms. Baseline assessment and infusions are at the Minneapolis VA and the MRI is at the Center for Magnetic Research Resonance at the University of Minnesota. Participation will take a maximum of 4 months.
Participants will be compensated for their time and effort. Participants will be compensated $125 for the baseline assessments ($50 for baseline questionnaires, interviews, and cognitive testing; $75 for MRI), $210 for participation in the RCT portion of the study (infusions compensated at $35 per infusion), $125 for post-treatment assessments and MRI, and $75 for follow-up ($25 per visit) portions of the study for a total of $535 for participation in the full study. Payment will be in the form of a pre-paid debit card.
