Generally, email is not a secure way to communicate sensitive or health related information as there are many ways for unauthorized users to access email. You should avoid sending sensitive, detailed personal information by email. Email should also not be used to convey information of an urgent nature.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is committed to protecting the privacy of all of the discovery partners enrolled in our studies. To offer the most privacy protection when communicating through email, we use a platform called Proofpoint Secure Email.
If you do not wish to use this secure platform for email communication with our research teams, you can simply sign our unsecure email authorization form to request that we continue communicating without additional privacy protection.
There is no software or application needed to receive a Proofpoint email communication. The first time you receive a secure Proofpoint email from our research teams, you will need to setup your access.
If you would like to use unsecure email when communicating with our research teams, we need you to sign a consent form that shows you understand the risk of unsecure email. Before you sign this form, we would like to make you aware of some risks with using unsecure email:
Your email communication could be accidentally sent to someone else
Your email account could be compromised, making your information available to an unknown party
Your information can be viewed by anyone with access to your account or the sender's account
This consent will need to be completed. Click HERE to view or print the unsecure email authorization consent. The research team will store this form in your study file. If you change your mind after signing this form, that is okay. Just let your study team know you would like to start using Proofpoint Secure Email.
