Science

All students will complete 2 whole cohort examinations each year.  These will test understanding and ability to apply taught content and will be used as the basis for the predicted grades and progress compared to expectations reported to parents in monitoring reports.  They are also used to inform setting and course choices for following years so it is important that students prepare properly for these assessments.  Guidance will be provided by class teachers but any support and supervision that can be provided by parents is hugely beneficial.

All tests will be conducted in examination conditions and students will require the following equipment:

• Black pen x 2

• Sharp pencil

• Ruler (30cm recommended)

• Calculator (Scientific type recommended)

Science homework

Homework forms an important component of student learning.  In science it is used to ensure that students have retained they key information taught and are well prepared for exams.

In accordance with the school homework policy, students in Y7, 8 and 9 are expected to spend up to 30 minutes each week completing science homework.  Students in year 10 and 11 are expected to spend up to 1 hour each week completing science homework.
