Last Thursday evening, we were delighted to open our first annual GCSE and A-Level art exhibition since 2019. It showcased 23 of our gifted students' exam work. The event was attended by students and their families and opened by Mr Maguire and Mr Ridgway. The quality of work on show was outstanding and the students should feel incredibly proud of their accomplishments, particularly with the additional challenges that they have faced over the last two years.

Year 10 Rewards Trip

On Wednesday our Year 10s were given the opportunity to attend our 'End of Year 10 Exams' Celebration Trip to reward them for their studies and efforts toward their recent assessments. Being their first exam series with study leave, Year 10s have had to hone their techniques for the natural autonomy of GCSE exam preparation. After seven academic days of assessments, they were finally able to let off some steam and enjoy the ice rink, adventure courses, climbing walls, arcades, indoor fairground rides, football pitches and robot goalkeepers within Funscape Dilmunia, alongside their form tutors, Assistant Head of Year and Head of Year. Across their activity choices the students visibly had a great day, and represented the school fantastically with their positive attitude, respect and politeness within the general public setting. Well done Year 10!

U13 Girls Basketball: 3rd Place Playoff

The U13 girls came up against IKNS last night in the final league play off for 3rd place. The girls started strong, getting points on the scoreboard from the get go, despite some of them feeling rather nervous prior to the game. This momentum continued as the game progressed, and once the girls got their eye in it was very clear that IKNS were going to struggle to close the gap. The BSB girls continued to battle hard, displaying excellent teamwork, and playing some of the best basketball I have seen them play all season. They secured the win with a mighty 54 - 2 score line to earn themselves a bronze medal. Congratulations to all the girls, you are a force to be reckoned with for the future of BSB basketball.

Basketball Update

U15 Girls

BSB played the 3rd and 4th place playoff game against a well organised Bahrain School Team. The U15 Girls team made a very strong start with the score being 10-2 to BSB after the first two quarters. However, Bahrain school gained momentum and got the score back to 10-8 until a late basket from BSB sealed a 12-8 win. Mr Macmillan, the teams coach, mentioned “BSB never gave up, the effort from the team throughout the basketball season has been fantastic and they deserve this high place finish in the league”. The team consisted of Natasha Rashid, Manal Mirza, Fatima Kazerooni, Mariam Dawawala, Giselle Menezes, Demira Govind, Habeba Aly, Kaavya Sukrutaraj, Heidi Edelmann, Aashi Taori and Zainab Kemira.

U15 Boys

The U13 boys played Bahrain school this week and recorded a 24-1 win. After a cagey first quarter, the boys really came into their own and started to dominate the game going in at 10-0 at the half. The second half started as the 2nd quarter had finished with a driving run and well-executed layup from Micah Tudor. The whole team followed suit and each individual added to the scoring resulting in a resounding victory. That means the U13 finished their basketball season with a 3rd place finish in the league winning 2 games and narrowly losing one game in the dying seconds. Next on the cards are the BSB U15's.

Basketball Update

U15 Girls

In a very competitive encounter against St Chris, BSB took the lead through a well worked team basket with the first quarter ending 4-4. As the game went on our team worked exceptionally hard against a well organised opponent. Unfortunately the game finished 26-6 to St Chris but our girls never gave up and tried their hardest right up until the final buzzer. We now will play our 3rd/4th place play off match against Bahrain school which promises to be an excellent encounter.

U15 Boys

The U15’s suffered a punishing loss this week against St Chris, in a crushing 17 - 1 defeat. The boys moved the ball and transitioned into offense well, but too many missed lay-ups or hopeful shots from deep amounted to little for their efforts. Despite the loss, the boys are keen to continue training and learning more about the game, which will only help to strengthen the team going forwards. Man of the Match: Owen Alkhatib

U13 Girls

The U13 basketball girls put on a nail biting performance against St Chris on Wednesday evening. We certainly met our match with a tough opposition, but the girls rose the challenge and put up an excellent fight which saw the first 3 quarters incredibly close. Unfortunately, St Chris scored some excellent 2 pointers and ran away with it in the final quarter to win the game 19-7, a score line that didn’t reflect the game.

U13 Boys

U13 boys took on St Christopher's school this week with a closely contested game. Bsb went behind early in the first quarter but a much improved second quarter and points scored from Hasn Ruyan, Daniel Al Saie and Ali Askar meant that it was all tied up at 6-6 at half time. In the 3rd quarter BSB went behind again with two quick baskets from st chris, but with 10 seconds left on the clock James Thorley scored to put us within 2 points. The final quarter was a high scoring affair, baskets from Jed Baker and Thomas Du Preez meant that with 2 minutes to go BSB were down by one point. James Thorley once again rose highest to collect a rebound and then scored whilst being fouled. He then had two three throws to extend our lead, he converted one of them putting BSB up by two points with 1 minute to go. With the last throw of the game st chris managed to score a 3 point buzzer beater to seal the victory. The end result was BSB 18-19 St Chris. Well done to all who took part this was an excellent performance and a very entertaining game.

BSME Dance

The theme this year for the online competition is 'Art in motion'

We have Olivia dancing in the solo category her inspiration for the dance was Bixby who is one of her favorite artists and The girl losing her heart is one of her favorite pieces of his work. The dance is based on a contemporary style because she thought it fitted it really well.

The group dance is performed by Lina, Dareen, Olivia, Sama, Lorena, Deema and Charlotte. We decided to look at digital art and the concept of light and dark. The dance is based around tourist looking around an art gallery and taking 'selfies' as they move round the exhibitions. In photography light and dark is often used to create the image, it can be a literal definition of light vs dark equally when we are drawing we need light and dark. Light from the sun/lights can cast shadows, create moods and express emotion in the photograph. Light and dark is a concept that is necessary in every piece of art.

Student Workshop: Game Development

20 students of Year 10 attended a Game Development workshop, run by The Alahlia University here at BSB on Tuesday morning. They enjoyed the practical development and understood the importance of developing skills of design and coding, when creating games. They also learned about the planning and work associated with developing games in this fast growing sector in the job market.

Bahrain School Sports League

The Bahrain School Sport League was back this term with the opening round of Basketball season. 4 teams were in action against Riffa Views.

U15 Boys Basketball: The boys were full of optimism going into the first game, however defensive errors saw them down by 4 points at the end of the first half. Moving into the second half, missed layups and unnecessary fouls on defense saw BSB limited to only 5 pts as Riffa ran out winners 16 - 5. The boys go again this Sunday against St Chris, looking to turn things around.

U15 Girls Basketball: Our U15 Girls Basketball Team had their first match of the season against RVIS. BSB started well with early points scored and fantastic work rate being shown from the team. After the first two quarters BSB showed their dominance with many players hitting form and scoring for fun. The final score was 34-4 to BSB. Our next match is against St Chris on Sunday, which should be another good test for our fantastic U15 basketballers.

U13 Girls Basketball: The U13 girls basketball team traveled to RVIS for their first game of the season on Wednesday evening. They put on an outstanding performance, with some top class defending that saw the opposition struggle to get on the scoreboard, and some unstoppable attacking play up the court. Congratulations to Hala and Cameron who were voted joint 'players player' for their fantastic play.

U13 Boys Basketball: The U13 boy's basketball team was handsomely victorious against Riffa views school who they beat 30-0. The precedent for the game was set within the first 30 seconds when Hasan Ruyan broke through the Riffa defense with ease for the first 2 points of the day. The first quarter carried on this way with points being scored by Daniel Alsaie, Jed Baker, and Thomas Du Preez putting us up by 12 points after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the scoring continued with points coming from Malik Ahmed and James Thorley who were excellently supported by Joel Harden and Micah Tudor, at the halfway mark the score was 18-0. Throughout the second half, the scoring continued with both Hasan Ruyan and Daniel Alsaie sinking 3 pointers. Great defending in the final quarter from all and especially Ali Askard made sure Riffa did not score a single point. The game finished 30-0 with the points being distributed all around the team.

BSB Charity Football Cup

Congratulations to Ahmed Haffedh and Noora Fraija in the Lower 6th, who created and executed the concept of the BSB Cup charity football tournament on 28th and 29th April. Ten teams quickly filled the available places and contested the group stage on the first night, followed by the knockout rounds on the second night. The atmosphere was wonderful as spectators arrived in their masses to support their friends and peers in a hotly contested tournament. The knockout rounds in particular were incredibly high standard and closely matched, with penalties required a number of times to settle the matches. Ahmed and Noora were supported by a fantastic team of students, predominantly from Year 12, who organised tickets, officiated the matches, ran the website with live socres and league standings, and managed the event. There was lots of BSB involvement in the tournament itself, with the biggest success story being our Year 9 and 10 boys team finishing 3rd overall, despite being the youngest team entered. Congratulations also to Mohamed Al Mudhaweb, who was a key member of the winning team in the centre of their midfield.

The best news of the event was the amount of money raised, with over 2000BD being collected over the course of the tournament. The money will now be split between the Red Cross and the Bahrain Cancer Society.

Thursday 28th April

Welcome back

It has been lovely to see students back in school as enthusiastic and determined as ever, contributing and making progress. We have two big events taking place this weekend, which are entirely student led. The BSB Cup charity football tournament, organised by AHmed Haffadh and Noora Fraija, takes place this evening and tomorrow evening. 10 teams have entered and are ready to compete for the trophy and a place in history as the inaugural winners of the tournament. Spectators are most welcome, and can enjoy relaxing entertainment and refreshments provided by our partners. Entry is 2bd per guest and can be paid upon arrival. Gates open (at Al Liwan) at 7:45pm.

We also have the BSB Big Beach Clean on Saturday morning at Nurana Island, commencing at 9am, to conclude our Earth week. Maya Al-Shanti and Emmanuella Erhunmwunsee worked hard on a schedule of activities for students to take part in during registration, PSHE and assemblies, complementing the work that has gone on in the curriculum as part of the week of raising awareness.

Both events have once again highlighted the lengths that our students go to in order to enhance their own and others school experiences. Both of these initiatives are examples of many of our school values, such as community, kindness, ambition and creativity.

Ahead of the holiday, there are a few announcements for information.

Eid Mubarak. I wish everyone a restful break.

A reminder that the school uniform policy can be viewed on our website. Students have been reminded this week of the expectations regarding their appearance, with the holiday arriving as an opportunity to address any issues that may have been raised.

  1. Footwear - must be plain black, with no other visible colours, logos or writing. When wearing PE kit, students may wear appropriate sports trainers of a different colour.

  2. Jewellery (Y7-13) - Maximum of one discreet necklace, one discreet bracelet, one non obtrusive ring and up to three stud earrings. It is not recommended that students wear jewellery to school.

  3. Light make up, if worn, must be discreet.

  4. Nails - should be the students' own, not false or extended. Polish, if chosen, should be discreet and neutral colours.

  5. Hoodies - BSB branded only may be worn outside of classrooms as an outer jacket. In the classroom, the school jumper should be worn if needed.
