Developments in Virtual School
We have received lots of positive feedback and constructive suggestions to help us make our virtual school provision even better for our students. The morning form-time sessions at 0745 - which is the time the children would normally begin arriving in class for registration if we were operating normally - have proven helpful and successful in setting everyone up for the virtual day ahead. In addition, the following developments are coming up after the Eid holiday
Y5/6 online cycle testing - Arabic, English Maths and Science tests will take place through the WISEflow online assessment system, as per the information and weekly schedule that has already been emailed to parents of students in Years 5 and 6.
Extra-Curricular Google Classroom groups - as we are not able to run our usual clubs programme at the moment, we shall instead set up Google Classroom pages for students to join, with different themes. For example, I shall set up a Flight Simulation Club page, where students who are interested can exchange messages on that topic. Each page will be monitored daily by a BSB staff member. Watch this space for a list of the pages, coming soon.
PE: The Island Challenge
Check out this exciting new challenge from the PE department. Everyone can keep fit by covering distances, in the safety of their own space, equivalent to touring Bahrain's many places of interest. Watch the video and enjoy the challenge.

The Ramadan Challenge
Junior students took part in the Ramadan Challenge last week - to decorate a corner of their home beautifully, in celebration of this special month. You can see the wonderful results in this video.
Virtual School
Ali in class 6.10 had this to say about virtual school:
"In virtual school I learn in every lesson just like I learn in school. Even though my teachers are not with me, I am able to communicate with them through Bluejeans and Google meets. It helps me a lot, especially when I don’t understand the lesson or need help with a task. It was hard to get used to virtual school at the start but now I am comfortable and able to learn successfully.”
Saba in class 3.02 told us this:
"I like virtual schooling. I’m doing better in my Maths with my online lessons. I got more computer skills now, and I can type faster than before, both English and Arabic. I am trying to improve in finishing my work on time, not after 3 o’clock. I enjoy virtual schooling because the teacher has more time for one-to-one sessions, in case we need more explaining."
Luca in class 6.05 said:
"In virtual school I have learned the discipline and commitment to wake up every morning and fulfil the assignments to the best of my abilities. I really enjoyed flashback stories and The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. I loved electrical circuits in science lessons and identifying angles in triangles in Maths."
Lamiya in class 5.04 told us:
"I have learned a lot in virtual school. It is almost like a normal school day."
Shaurya in class 6.08 said:
My virtual school experience, up to now, has been really very good. It has taught me to be independent and creative. I look forward to virtual school every day because it is fun and interactive. We are assigned a variety of tasks which makes it interesting. All the teachers have given me good and encouraging feedback, which motivates me to do better. Besides the fun things about Virtual school, here are some discipline tips that I follow:
I always wake up on time and get ready a few minutes before the school starts.
I always sit on a chair at a table .
I make sure I submit assignments on time.
Last but not least, I make sure I have fun and enjoy virtual school."
Uriel in class 4.01 said:
“I am taking this opportunity to develop my computer skills, with new programs and applications. I participate and take advantage of each of the tasks because all of them provide me with something new to learn. Thanks to my teachers and BSB for this Virtual School.”
Pratyush in class 5.06 told us:
"I think that, even when the school is closed, it is great that we can still continue learning. Virtual schooling gives us a chance to interact with our teachers and friends, although I really miss my school and friends a lot and cannot wait for the schools to reopen. My mum tells me that virtual schooling gives a purpose to our day and I agree with her. I also want to thank you my teachers who are very helpful to us."
Shayaan in class 5.04 made a video for us, about his experience of Virtual BSB.
Vanya in class 6.02 told us:
"In these strange times, even though the world seems to have stopped working, my school has definitely not... virtual school has brought education to me in my house and I want to thank all my teachers and everyone linked to my continuous learning."
Cooper in class 3.10 sent us this video clip of himself at work in his virtual classroom.
Adonis and Maria's Charity Drive
Maria in class 6.09 has been making good use of her weekends at home, baking dog treats and distributing them to friends' and neighbours' houses, while maintaining safe social distancing. Through her dog treat scheme, Maria has raised more than BD50 in aid of the BSPCA. She plans to continue her charitable baking programme. As well as tasting the treats for quality control, Maria's dog, Adonis, has been advertising the charity initiative through his Instagram feed - check out #adonisbarkery

Ramadan Kareem
Below is a video message from the Arabic department, as we begin this special month.
Virtual School
Here you can see Hamnah in class 4.08 in her virtual work space. Hamnah has this to say to us:
"Hello, Friends,
I have learnt lots of things in the virtual classroom along with lots of gadgets that I never expected to be there. My favourite bit of virtual class is meeting with my teacher, Ms Mann. Though I miss my friends, I love chatting on hangouts where I am in contact with them. I also like doodling in my spare time, only if I have nothing to complete.
I would like to say thank you to all the teachers and BSB IT Team who have arranged all of this just for virtual school. Take care and see you soon!!
Here are some quotations from Mrs Halpin's PSHE students, reflecting on virtual school:
"I am grateful that my parents have the possibility for me to have a proper education at this time' (Camila, Year 6)
'I've learned to be responsible and take my education more seriously' (Deema, Year 6)
'Stand in front of the mirror and reflect on all you have achieved . I am grateful how my school continues to teach by doing it virtually so we don't miss anything' - (Nancy, Year 6)
Sidhartha in class 6.10 gave us this video feedback on virtual school.
Headteacher's Awards
Well done to the latest awardees. Keep up the great virtual work and we shall see who is in next week's Hall of Fame!

Getting Virtually Active
So, does virtual school mean sitting in front of a screen all day? BSB juniors reply with a resounding 'No!' as they showcase their PE skills, improvising, exercising, developing and maintaining their all-round fitness, as well as learning new techniques. My thanks to Mr Brennan for putting together this great video. Watch out for exciting new developments in PE Virtual School - a little bird tells me PE Monopoly is just around the corner. Now where did I put my PE kit...

Virtual Workspaces
Several of our students and their parents have shared photos of their Virtual School workspaces with us. Camila 6.08, Malak 6.01, Daithi 6.05, Sara 5.06, Talal 5.07, Hafsah 3.10 and Qassim 6.10 have arranged well illuminated, uncluttered workspaces, facilitating concentration on their studies in Virtual School. Remote learning isn't just about staring at a screen; we are able to study in various ways to keep up with our learning. Scroll down for a video from Adira in 6.01, telling us what she has learned in Virtual School.
