In the lead up to sports day we have been discussing and investigating the concept of 'muscles' with our classes. Muscles, and in particular muscles relating to a child's core strength are so important in the classroom, not just on a sports field! Studies and research in this area have shown that increasing your child's core strength will help improve not only the more obvious balance and posture but also improve their concentration and ability to sustain interest in one activity. Over the next few weeks in Nursery we will all be practising some key exercises to help improve our core strength. If you would like to learn a little more I have attached this useful link: https://theinspiredtreehouse.com/how-to-tell-if-your-child-has-weak-core-muscles/

Next week all the Nursery classes will be going on their first cooking challenge. The children will first plan their trip by making a shopping list and making sure they have all the things they will need. 6 children from each class will walk over to Al Jazira to get the things on their list. Once they get back the rest of the class will help chop, mix, prepare and serve the food. All the children will get the chance to do all of these jobs over the 4 weeks. Lastly we will review all the previous steps and talk about what went well and what we would do next time to make it even better.
I hope you have all been enjoying looking at this weeks ‘Diary Entries’ on Tapestry. Please continue to look through and discuss what is happening in the photographs. Each child will not be in every single photograph, but every child will be featured at least once a week. I cannot emphasis enough how valuable this talking time with your child is.
If there are still parents who have not signed up for the Tapestry application please email Ms Jess on grayj@thebsbh.com so she is able to reactivate your login.
For the children to be able to learn and thrive at school it is vital that the children are having at least 10 hours of sleep a night. Please make sure your night time routing reflects this so the children are truly able to enjoy school.
Sports Day will be on Thursday 30th January.
Topic: What makes me, me?
Nursery Rhyme: Dinosaur Roar
Math’s Focus: Opposites
We will be using Tapestry a little differently this term. One of the great advantages of Tapestry is that the children get to share their experiences and learning at home and further their knowledge by talking about their learning with family members. A great example of this was when we were learning about babies. After looking at some photos on Tapestry, some parents choose to share photographs of themselves when they were babies with their children. This brought great, meaningful discussion back to the classroom the following day. Even one child sharing "You know my daddy didn't have any hair was a baby!" was enough to get other children chipping in.
To this end, please look through and discuss what is happening in the photographs in the 'Diary Entries' section of Tapestry with your child. Each child will not be in every single photograph, but every child will be featured at least once a week. I cannot emphasis enough how valuable this talking time with your child is.

Real life experiences are a vital part of learning. This term we will be shopping, preparing and cooking with the children in Nursery. Over 4 weeks, the children will get the opportunity to shop, chop, mix, prepare and serve a selection of food. To make this successful we will need some parent volunteers to accompany small groups of children on short shopping trips to Al Jazira at Hamala Hills. Please could you let your child’s class teacher know if you would be free and willing to volunteer your time.
Sports Day will be on Thursday 30th January. More details will follow shortly.

We use these in the event of accidents and also if the children get a little enthusiastic in water play.
On your child’s first day there was a booklet titled ‘Me Book’ in their cubby, this is to take home and fill with drawings (by your child) and photographs.
