Megan Sherwin 2014 - 2018

BEAP has taught me so many things about myself that I would not have learned elsewhere. One important aspect that BEAP has taught me is time management skills. It has taught me how to organize my time, so I can get everything I need done. This is a skill I will use for the rest of my life. As well, BEAP has allowed me to find out what my strengths and weaknesses are and how I can utilize those skills in my everyday life. Overall BEAP has taught to me so many valuable life lessons that I will use for the rest of my life.

I don’t think I would be where I am in my athletic career without BEAP. Before coming into BEAP I was at a stand still in my swimming career. I was only competing at Nationals. Since I have been in BEAP my swimming career has blasted off.  I have been able to represent Ontario at the 2017 Canada Summer Games, represent Canada at the World Para Swimming Series in Denmark as well the CP World Games in Spain. BEAP helped me reach the next level. BEAP showed me so many ways to train, this allowed me to enhance my everyday training. BEAP also showed me that there is more to the sport than just practicing it. BEAP helped guide my nutrition plan and mental preparedness.

Before grade 12 I had no idea what I wanted to do, but BEAP helped guide me in finding a career I was interested in. In the Fall of 2018 I will be attending the University of Waterloo for the Recreation and Sport Business Program. I will also be swimming for the Varsity Swim Team. BEAP has acted as a foundation and has guided me to a program and future career that I wouldn’t have gotten to without BEAP.

BEAP was one of the best things about my high school experience! I immediately felt a part of a family and I felt I belonged at Birchmount. So many of my close friends are from BEAP because we all share something in common. I am so proud to say I was a part of the Birchmount Exceptional Athlete Program!
