Topic: Name Calling – Using Kind Words Like Jesus

Theme Verse: “Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul.” – Proverbs 16:24

Time: 30–40 minutes

G – Goal (Set the Learning Goal)

Today we are learning that God wants us to use kind words and not call others mean names. Jesus always spoke kindly, and we can follow His example.

A – Access Prior Knowledge

• Ask: “Has someone ever said something that made you feel sad?”

• Let students share simple answers (with guidance).

• Show two puppets or pictures: one smiling (kind words), one sad (mean words). Ask, “Which one do you want to be like?”

N – New Information

Bible Story & Verse

• Teach the verse: “Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul.” (Proverbs 16:24)

• Show honey or a picture of it. Explain how it’s sweet and how kind words are sweet for the heart.

• Bible story: Jesus blessing the children (Mark 10:13–16). Explain how Jesus welcomed them with love, not mean words.

• Do a short puppet skit: one puppet calls names, the other uses kind words. Discuss feelings.

A – Apply the Learning

Activity Options:

• Kindness Heart Craft: Each child decorates a heart with drawings or stickers and writes/draws a kind word.

• Role-play: Model saying kind phrases like “Thank you,” “I like you,” “You’re kind,” and let students try.

• Verse Repetition: Repeat the Bible verse with motions (e.g., “Kind words” = hands to mouth; “like honey” = rub belly; “sweet to the soul” = hands over heart).

G – Goal Review

• Ask: “What did we learn today?”

• Recite Proverbs 16:24 again.

• Remind: “Jesus wants us to speak with kind words, not mean names.”

Prayer:

“Dear God, help me to use kind words like Jesus. Help me love others with my mouth and heart. Amen.”
