Lesson Title: Disciples Follow Jesus

Goal: Students will understand that Jesus chose His disciples and they followed Him, learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus today.

Anticipatory Set (APK):

1. Visual Hook: Show a short video or an animated image of Jesus calling His disciples (e.g., the story of Jesus calling Peter and Andrew).

2. Discussion: Ask students,

Have you ever followed someone before? Maybe your parents or a teacher?

What does it mean to follow someone?

New Information (Direct Teaching):

1. Bible Story: Read the story of Jesus calling His disciples from the Purposeful Design Book.

Emphasize Matthew 4:18-22: Jesus calls Peter and Andrew, saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Highlight that the disciples left everything to follow Jesus because they trusted Him.

Show a picture or flannel board visuals of Jesus and His disciples.

2. Key Takeaways:

Jesus had special followers called disciples.

The disciples left everything to follow Jesus because they believed He was the Son of God.

Jesus wants us to be His disciples today by loving, obeying, and sharing His message.

Application (Hands-On Activity):

1. Fisher of Men Craft

Provide students with paper fish, string, glue, and a popsicle stick to create a small fishing net craft.

Each child writes or draws one way they can follow Jesus on a fish.

Connect to the verse: “Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. (Matthew 4:19)

2. Role-Playing Game

Choose one student to play Jesus and others to be disciples.

As Jesus calls, the disciples follow, acting out the story.
