Lesson Plan 1: The Tower of Babel

Goal:

Students will learn about the Tower of Babel and understand that God wants us to obey Him and trust His plans.

APK (Activating Prior Knowledge): (5 minutes)

Teacher: “Have you ever built a tall tower with blocks? What happens when it gets too tall?”

Invite students to briefly share their experiences with building something high.

Show a picture or short video clip of tall towers around the world to spark curiosity.

Materials:

Pictures or a short video clip of famous towers (e.g., Eiffel Tower, Burj Khalifa).

New Information (Bible Story): (15 minutes)

1. Teacher Narration:

Read Genesis 11:1-9 in a simplified, child-friendly version.

Explain that people wanted to build a tall tower to be famous instead of obeying and trusting God.

Highlight how God confused their language to remind them to follow His plans.

2. Visual Demonstration:

Use blocks or a toy tower to represent the Tower of Babel.

Show how the “tower” stopped growing when the people couldn’t understand each other.

Biblical Integration:

Emphasize that God knows what’s best for us and wants us to obey Him, even when we don’t understand everything.

Technological Integration:

Use a tablet or projector to show a short animation or image slideshow of the Tower of Babel.

Application (Activity): (25 minutes)

“Build and Mix” Activity

Instructions:

Divide students into small groups and give each group blocks or building materials.

At first, let them build a tower together.

Halfway through, introduce “confusion” by asking them to communicate only with hand gestures or gibberish.

Discuss how it felt to not understand each other.

Discussion:

Talk about how God’s plan is always better than trying to do things on our own.

Materials:

Blocks or building materials

Generalization (Closing): (10 minutes)

Discussion: “What happened to the people building the tower? Why did God confuse their language?”

Reinforce the idea that obeying God is the best choice.

Close with prayer, thanking God for His perfect plans.
