Pre-Kindergarten Lesson Plan

ACSI Character Education – Q4: Miracles at Sea

 Goal:

• Students will learn about Jesus’ miracle of filling the disciples’ net with fish and understand that Jesus has power over all things.

• Students will express awe at Jesus’ power and recognize that following Him means trusting Him.

Anticipatory Set (APK - Activate Prior Knowledge)

Activity: “Big Catch or Empty Net?”

• Show the children a small empty net or an empty bucket.

• Ask:

• “Have you ever tried to catch fish before?”

• “What happens when there are no fish?”

• “What do you think would happen if Jesus told you to throw your net in the water?”

• Let them share their ideas.

New Information (Bible Story & Discussion)

Bible Story: Luke 5:1-11 (Jesus Fills the Nets)

• Read or tell the story using a children’s Bible or visual aids.

• Key Points to Emphasize:

• The disciples had been fishing all night but caught nothing.

• Jesus told them to throw their net again, even though they didn’t think it would work.

• When they obeyed, they caught so many fish that their nets almost broke!

• The disciples were amazed and followed Jesus.

Discussion Questions:

• “Why do you think Jesus filled the net with fish?”

• “Why didn’t the disciples believe at first?”

• “What does this miracle show us about Jesus?” (He is powerful, He provides, He wants us to trust Him.)

Application (Hands-On Activity)

Water Pebbles on a Sponge Experiment

• Materials: Water, pebbles, dishpan, sponge.

• Procedure:

1. Place a dry sponge in the dishpan.

2. Have the children gently pour water onto the sponge.

3. Add pebbles on top of the sponge and observe how the water spreads.

Discuss:

• “What happened to the sponge when we added water?”

• “What happened when we added pebbles?”

• Relate it to how Jesus provided more than enough fish to fill the nets.

Alternative Activity:

• Have a pretend fishing game using toy fish and a net.

• Let them “fish” and discuss how Jesus filled the nets supernaturally.

Generalization (Connection to Daily Life & Faith Application)

• Emphasize that just like Jesus filled the net with fish, He provides what we need.

• Ask: “How can we trust Jesus even when we don’t understand?”

• Encourage children to pray when they need help and trust that Jesus will provide for them.

• End with a simple prayer:

“Dear Jesus, thank You for showing us Your power and for taking care of us. Help us to trust You and follow You every day. Amen.”
