Pre-Kindergarten Lesson Plan: “Jesus Feeds the 5,000”

Bible Story: Jesus Feeds the 5,000 (John 6:1-14)


Objective:

Understand the importance of sharing.

Learn that Jesus can do amazing things with what we give Him.

Recognize that Jesus cares for us and provides for our needs.


Circle Time (15 minutes)

1. Introduction:

Start with a simple prayer, asking Jesus to help us learn about His love and miracles.

Introduce the story: “Today, we will learn about a time when Jesus did something amazing with just a little boy’s lunch!”


2. Story Time:

Read the story “Jesus Feeds the 5,000” using a children’s Bible or storybook.

Use props like a small basket with 2 toy fish and 5 small toy loaves of bread.

3. Discussion Questions:

Who gave his lunch to Jesus? (The little boy)

How many people did Jesus feed? (5,000 men, plus women and children)

What did Jesus do before sharing the food? (He prayed and thanked God)

What can we learn about sharing?


Activity Time (20 minutes)

1. Craft: Basket of Bread and Fish

Materials Needed:

Paper plates (to make the basket)

Cut-out fish and bread shapes (coloring sheets)

Crayons, glue sticks, and stickers

Instructions:

Let the children color the fish and bread.

Help them glue the fish and bread onto the paper plate basket.

Encourage them to count the fish and loaves as they glue them.

Write “Jesus cares for us” on each basket.


Snack Time (10 minutes)

Snack Idea:

Goldfish crackers and small bread rolls to represent the fish and loaves.

Before eating, practice saying a simple prayer of gratitude just like Jesus did.


Music and Movement (10 minutes)

Songs to Sing:

“Jesus Loves Me”

“He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”

“God is So Good”

Action Activity:

Pretend to be the little boy sharing his lunch.

Act out the miracle of Jesus multiplying the food with hand motions.


Bible Verse (5 minutes)

Verse of the Day:

“And my God will meet all your needs.” – Philippians 4:19

Practice saying it together with hand motions:

Point up for “God”

Hug yourself for “meet all your needs”


Closing Prayer and Dismissal (5 minutes)

Thank God for providing for us and teaching us to share.

Pray for friends, family, and any special requests from the children.


Take-Home Activity:

Send home a coloring sheet of Jesus feeding the 5,000.

Include a note encouraging parents to discuss the importance of sharing at home.
