The "livable forest" is a popular nickname for Kingwood, used by real estate agents and other actors to attract people looking to settle in a nature rich area, and they aren't wrong for using that phrase.
Within greenbelts, parks, lakes, and even urban settings, Kingwood is a beautiful blend of human activity with animate forms of the natural world.
I seek to magnify Kingwood residents' appreciation for their natural environment. We should be grateful for our home's deep environmental presence and be willing to protect our wildlife and natural areas.
Personally, one of the ways that I most enjoy nature in Kingwood is observation of the birdlife. Through years of being raised in Kingwood, the birds that I saw and heard on a daily basis became one of the most prominent ways that my senses interacted with the environment.
Since moving to College Station and living on a bustling campus, a hard realization that the sights and noises of birds didn't follow me set in, and my appreciation for the Kingwood birdlife grew.
Although I have learned to also appreciate the birds of College Station, I created this glossary in order to educate myself and hopefully others of the daily interaction with Kingwood birds that I love and enjoy.
