The Duck, but specifically the Mallard duck, is a very common sight in Kingwood. The ponds built into the backs of most neighborhoods provide the perfect habitat for these birds.
Although they generally do not stay in the South during breeding season, the Mallard likes to stick around in Kingwood- maybe because they can often find silly humans to feed them bread!
The Mallard is actually the ancestor of almost all domestic duck breeds which is probably why they like to chill with us at our ponds. And even though they often seem to be flightless and lethargic, they are actually fairly strong fliers.
