Duck Stamp

9"x12"

Colored pencil and white gel pen

The main idea behind this piece was to create a scientifically accurate portrait of a wood duck. It was made using mostly colored pencils but there was also a small amount of white gel pen used as well. There was a ton of research that went into this piece, most of it centered around finding a clear reference photo that captured what I needed of the duck, such as pigment or the number of feathers on the wings. I made the duck flying because it was the easiest position I could piece together using multiple reference photos to avoid stealing someone else's work.
