Disturbance

Fine tipped marker, illustration markers, graphite, and ink

9" 6"

The main idea behind this piece was that small unknown splotches had invaded these pom-pom-like creatures' canvas, making them weary and suspicious. For this work, I used a Staedtler triplus fineliner, some Artsmith illustration markers, and a graphite pencil. The process for this was longer than it should have been. I first had to figure out what I wanted my little blobs to look like, then practiced drawing them over and over again so that I would not mess up their shape or expressions on the final piece. Then I finally drew them onto the inkblot paper and gave them a little bit of shadowing. I had gone back and forth on if I wanted a background or not, then decided that since they lived on the paper, that was their background. I only used color inside the creatures to emphasize the difference between them and the ink, one is vibrant and the other is like a void. I tried to position them so that there was not too much empty space left, but they all still had a reasonable amount of room between them.
