Ceramics l

The in class project I am most proud of would be the underglaze transfers because it was the one project that came out the most like my vision. Most projects I’ve done took me about 3-4 days to assemble but for the glaze transfers it took about 2 days to finish assembling and transferring my design. I really liked the way the middle turned out. I was expecting for it to not transfer completely but it did and it came better than I expected, it even has texture when you run your hands over the design which I think is pretty cool! Overall I liked the quickness and easiness of this project. What I learned from doing this project was how to underglaze transfer, which is really helpful because I’m able to create more detailed designs and all I have to do is piece of paper slab and if you do it correctly, the design will turn out good.

Taking this class changed the way I think about ceramics because when I first thought about ceramics, I thought it was just throwing clay on the wheel and not much hand techniques however working with Clay and doing so many projects I learned that there are multiple ways to make pots, cups, and plates then just using the wheel, you can make all of those things by hand using techniques like coil rolling. Knowing this makes me appreciate people who work with a job because it takes time and effort to make those objects and even though most artists use the wheel, it still is hard to master without  putting in effort and taking the time to do so.

A recommendation I would make for ways that ceramics 1 could be improved is  maybe combining the underglaze transfer unit and sgraffito tile unit together that we did in the beginning. I think this would save a lot of time and the time we used  to make the underglaze transfers can be used for another project.
