Sgraffito

The main idea of this piece was to copy the scratchboard design of the butterfly on the left to a slab of clay. Unfortunatly my clay got fired in the kiln beofr I finished, so it isnt completly done. I still think that it looks good on its own though, even without all of the design.

I used a clay slab and a carving tool to make my sgraffito piece. For my scratchboard beginning design, I used a scratchboard and a scratching tool.

I started my creating my scratchboard design that is on the left. I decided to make a butterfly. I then made a square piece of clay, let it dry, and then glazed over it. After the glaze dried I carved my design onto the block. I, unfortunately, didn't finish the design before it was fired, so it only has a partial design.
