Extended Blind Contour Portrait

9" x 12"

Graphite Pencils

The main idea behind this piece is status. I drew the face onto the main drawing to make the blind contour look like the crown of a prince, while also looking like a garbled mess. It was meant to show how symbols of status don't always make sense. The Prince in this piece is wearing his crown to show status, even though it doesn't

make sense to us.

I used pen, graphite, and paper for this piece. I used a pen for the original blind contour and used pencil for making it into a complete drawing.

In the beginning, I drew three things as blind contours. I drew a self-portrait, my hand, and Rylee's face. All of the drawings were overlapped in such a way that you couldn't make anything out of the ball of lines themselves, so I had to add to it. I fixed this problem by turning my original drawing into a flamboyant hat and drawing a face to where it. After this, I shaded the smaller sections of the hat semi-randomly to give the drawing flavor in such a way as to not have any level of shading touching itself.
