Historical Pot

The main idea for this project was to recreate a historical pot.  The pot I was trying to recreate was from 8th century China. I liked this pot due to its shape and how the lid is made. I wanted to recreate this pot because I beleived it would be simple to create out of coils and I have been wanting to create a pot like this all year.

The materials I used were clay and glaze

The process for making this pot started out pretty strong but became pretty iffy during the middle. Overall im happy with how it turned out. I started with making a slab and using a spray bottle to create the circle shape. I then started using coils made from the coil extruder to start building it up. I did this on repeat until the pot was my desired shape. I had a challenge with smoothing it out and creating the more "bubbled" part of the pot. But eventually I learned that I have to put a great amount of pressure on both sides to create that bubble. Then I made a lip around the edge for the lid to stand on. I made the lid and popped the pot into a bisque firing. Once my pot came out of the kilm I glazed it with a very beautiful glaze and popped it into a glaze firing which came out beautifully.
