Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was we were given the assignment to first draw a pure contour hand withe a rubber band. Pure contour is art where you don't see any shading and you only see the hard lines of the hand or object. This makes sure you are paying close attention to the actual piece of work you are referencing. The second part was to draw three views of a shoe. We could use any shoe for each soI chose my sneaker and my sandal. We were to draw a front view of a shoe, and side view, and an aerial view.\

For this artwork I used 12" by 9" drawing paper and graphite pencils. I used a H pencil for the beginning sketchy lines for the outline, then went back over the drawing with a B2 pencil which is much darker.

The process I went through with the Hand Holding Rubber Band piece was I first took the rubber band and intertwined it into my fingers. I then took time to look at every groove and proportion in my hand. For the three views I chose my shoes, and then I did the same thing I did with my hand. I looked at every groove and stitch and tried to make it as proportionate as possible. Once done with the sketches I went over then with darker pencil lines.
