Acrylic and paint marker on canvas

Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was the expectation of creating a piece using 84 colors. I had to mix different shades and tints of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. I wanted to pick a scene where I could fit the most colors and settled on a summery day.

The materials I used for this art include acrylic and paint marker on canvas. I used the acrylic to mix the 84 colors and then used paint markers for the bold outlines and footprints in the black sand.

The process I went through creating the piece (right) was first figuring out what I wanted my scene to be a painting of. At first, I had thought about doing the four seasons and dedicating certain seasons to certain color schemes. Once I ruled that out, I just settled on one season which I chose as summer. Summer can have so many different colors but you see most of them on the beach. I went with a beachball look with blue skies and dots of color on the dark parts of the sky. When it came to the orange tints I decided to place them in the corner of the page to signify the sun. I chose to do the black sand and silver foot prints because I thought it would stand out more. As I went with all the colors, I placed them on a checklist (top left) which helped me sort out my colors and make sure I got all of them and all of their assigned tints and shades.
