Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was that I started with a medium-sized splotch on my paper. I had many different ideas before coming to the conclusion of what is on the paper now. I want to try to say that its okay to be the one that stands out no matter the reason.

For this artwork, I used 12" by 9" paper with Watercolors and Sharpie. I found using watercolor was difficult when creating the rainbow on the whale because I couldn't quite get the blending right.

The process I went through between my idea and finished piece was that when I first saw it I thought of a street lamp but didn't feel too connected to it so I decided to incorporate it into something else. Second, I thought of a whale but the angles weren't right but I still really liked the whale Idea so I decided to draw a ton of sea animals as shadows in the water with one rainbow whale standing out because it has the "oops" inside of it and is unique. I had to reasearch a bit about how each animal was shaped.
