Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was working with shadows and light to create a realistic drawing of a still life image. For my artwork, I chose a photo of candy still life.

For this piece I used Colored Pencil, Sharpie paint pen, Thin black pen, and Marker on 9" by 12" Bristol Board paper.

The process I went through making this art was I first set up my candy on the table. I arranged it in a way that would show both shadows and light. Once I had it set up, I took ad picture and printed it out to use as a reference. When drawing, I made sure I had everything proportioned right. The hard part was the color. I struggled finding the correct shades of colors and when it came to the highlights I had a hard time wrapping my head around where they should go and how to layer them. In the end, I had a realistic candy still life drawing from a real life reference.
