Acrylic Paint and Sharpie on Canvas Paper

Artist statement

The Main idea that guided this artwork was both Pop Art, and Contemporary Artist Barbara Kruger. I combined Two different Artists/Movements to create a art history inspired piece of art.

For this artwork I used acrylic paint and sharpie marker on 9" by 12" canvas paper.

My process when creating this artwork was to start off by picking which artist/movement I wanted to base my work off of. Once I had picked Pop Art and Barbara Kruger, I had to decide who I wanted to create and what quote or saying I wanted to place into the boxes. I eventually chose RBG because I look up to her a lot and think that she is a very well respected woman. I then found my quote, "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made", and started sketching out spacing and RBG herself. Once all was sketched I used bright and different colors on RBG and just a black sharpie marker for the lettering on the quote. Finally, I used that same sharpie to outline RBG and her features to really give it the Pop Art look.
