Tiles

I had to make an artwork that had at least two layers and was a tile. I thought about things that occurred in nature in layers. I thought of a bee hive. So I started off by drawing out my design and coping it. I then rolled out a slab of clay, I cut out the base layer out of the slab, smoothed it and cut another slab the same size. The second slabe I cut the design to then use as a template to cut a different layer. I cut the clay and slip and scored it to the other slab. I did the last process one more time. I then made my bees by just cutting them out of a slab using the design as a template. The antena are their own layer, shorter than the bees, but higher than the last big layer. After the tile was done, I put the wood together for the plaster mold and poured the plaster. When it was dry enough I took out the tile, it got ruined in the process. To make more I just pushed clay into the mold and then banged the edges not the corners to get the clay out. They dried then went through the kiln. I used yellow semi matte glaze as well as semi matte black glaze. They went through the glaze kiln.
