Ceramics II

Final Reflection:

I feel like my experience in Ceramics II was successful because I was able to choose a lot more of what I got to do. My favorite thing to make this year was my Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4 bookends. This was my favorite because Harry Potter is my favorite movie series so I enjoyed making this. What was most difficult for me was the tiles getting the to come out of the mold correctly, painting them took a while, and getting them to connect well. What worked well for me was the time frame we were given. We were given lots of time to make each project. What didn't work well was when things got fired because I would be done and then I couldn't start painting till days later because my stuff hadn't been fired, or I couldn't take photos because it wasn't fired so I couldn't finish my portfolio.

My bookends were the hardest project to make. I had to make the base slabs and then wait for those to dry out some, I then made the thicker piece of the wall, waited for that to dry then I made the arch. I had to attach the arch and let it dry upside down so that it wouldn't warp. While that was drying I started making the signs, Harry, and the trolly. I carved the bricks and tiles into the base and walls. After that I had to carve out the back of the bookends so that it wouldn't be to heavy. I then had to carve out more space to have the trolly fit seamlessly. After that I connected everything to the wall. I waited for it to fully dry out. Then it got bisque fired. I started glazing I started with the floor and walls, Then I did the trolly, the bird cage, owl, and harry. It got glaze fired then I took photos.

I would say this is my favorite class I have ever taken at Freeport High School. I really enjoy hands on things so being able to make everything myself was great. The way the class was organized really worked for me aswell the timeing for each project, and when stuff was introduced. Also Mr. A is the best art teacher in this school. He is so awesome always willing to help, gives great advice and finds ways to make class fun even on the days it would seem boring.
