Eccentric Teapot

Abbigail Pillsbury - Eccentric Teapot Design

We were told to make a teapot an eccentric teapot. We had to make it of things that are real but each thing needed to be its own piece, it wasn't supposed to look like a normal teapot. I am a big Harry Potter fan and I thought while being shown examples about a snake wrapping around and being the handle and spout. I looked up some inspiration and found someone who had also done that. I drew out my design, and I decided to do a cauldron as the pot, the sorting hat as the lid but the lid would also turn into a teacup, and the spout and handle as the snake Nagini. I started off with two pinch pots and put them together to make the base of the teapot. I then let it dry and cut out the hole for the lid. After this, I made the three pieces at the lid consist of. There is the bottom which is what will be on most of the time and will kind of seal the pot. The teacup part is next the teacup will sit upsidedown on top of the base of the lid. Then the part that looks like the top of the hat, which also has his face on it. Once the base of my teapot was dry enough for me to hold for a while, I started putting the snake on and smoothing it out. Once that was finished. It dried then went through the kiln. I used black glaze for the cauldron, I mixed some brown and yellow underglaze to get the brown color I wanted for the hat. I mixed two green underglazes to make the right green I wanted for the snake. Then it went through the kiln and was finished.
