Funnest Swing

Evidence of Work

Copy of Group Project - Build the Funnest Swing!!!!

For this project, our main objective was to create the swing that we believe would be the "funnest." To do this, we had to first decide what factors we believed made a swing fun. We decided on 3 main factors, which were: Speed, height, and view.

To learn how to create a swing and what determines different factors, we first analyzed different videos of swings. We also were given different equations to find the different speeds, heights, and many other things. (These equations are below)

Once we learned how to change the variables of our swings, we were able to start designing our swing. We decided on a location first, with a nice view as that was one of the parts we found most important. We found images of potential locations on google. After this, we knew that speed and height shared no relation, so we could maximize both without having to adjust the other. This allowed us to get what we believed to be an ideal swing.

Our final task was to add a rotational aspect to our motion. In our project, this was an imaginary push to the side of the rider that would result in spin. To help us understand this concept we went behind the tennis courts, put a swing up, and recorded different pushes/pulls on different people.

Finally, we presented all of our work in a slideshow.

Content

Length

The length from the top to bottom of the swing

Harmonic Motion

When the displacement is directly proportional to the force being applied

Period

The time it takes to complete one full swing

Maximum Tension

Where the swing's connecting ropes are under the most tension. This is at the bottom of the swing.

Minimum Tension

Where the swing's connection ropes are under the least tension. This is when the swing reaches it's peak

Height

The change in height from the top of the swing to the bottom

Angular Velocity

Angular Velocity=(Rad/s) x radius. The velocity in a circle

Angular Acceleration

The change in radians per second multiplied by the radius

Arc Length

The length of the edge of the circle from one side to the other of the swing.

Reflection

In regards to the six C's I felt I could have done better in collaboration and communication, but I did well in critical thinking and conscientious learner.

Our group was very separated from the very beginning of the project, and we never really came together during it. Our group also never really worked hard, even though I feel like I demonstrated that well. We had came up with our project proposal easily, but once we started, it was very difficult to get some group members to work. This affects both collaboration and communication because maybe if I did these two things better there would have been a better result. I did well in critical thinking and conscientious learner as I knew how to do all of the subjects covered in this project, and also did all of the sections that were asked of me.

In conclusion I enjoyed this project and would like to improve upon my pits and peaks in the future by managing my schedule and communicating better with my teammates.
