POST CLASS REFLECTION - INDIVIDUAL PROGRESS
We presented our final project to the class and I couldn't be more happier that it's finally finished. Looking back over these last four weeks, it's crazy to think I was very close to being "that" group member that doesn't share the workload of the group. There is a reason to that which I will touch upon further down, but I think it's best I start with the positives over the negatives. Just a quick note, I will be treating this week's reflection as a Project 3 reflection as well as a small final module reflection.
Firstly, towards the end of this trimester I started to slack off and I was afraid that I was going to crumble beneath the workload I had. Luckily thanks to my group I was able to pull myself out of that state and finish this project. Creating and designing the audio services for the website was good cheesy fun, that was probably my most enjoyable part of this project. This project was a pretty good peek into the world of starting your own start up company and I will be taking the lessons I have learn from all my projects into the workforce.
For the most part of this trimester I have been very consistent with my attendance for this unit, more so than my other units, and I think my quality of work has also been that of a high grade. I genuinely didn't mind this unit, I took an interest in the content as business is a field I am somewhat interested in. There were many analysis tools that I had no knowledge of, and I'm thankful to Peter for delivering that content to us. This unit has helped me shape the way I view my career path and how to get the most out of my profession. It's taught me the risks, the dangers, but also the rewards that come with if you are calculated and informed.
What didn't go well for me this time around was my commitment/motivation and also my lack of communication. Like I said previously I didn't want to be "that" group member who ends up slacking and leaving all the work to my group members to complete, but I feel for this project I was all over the place...I was a mess. To my credit, there was a major personal issue that occurred last weekend that affected my performance across all my units, but even prior to that I was exhausted and just wanted to finish the unit already.
I had to delegate my visual responsibility to Cody as I wasn't able to complete it in time. Granted, Cody had a small part to contribute anyway but I did feel I let the team down in that regard when I didn't communicate with them last weekend. This is probably why I am not a fan of the website's visuals as I have a very acute eye for visual details and had I been more on the ball, I may have been able to elevate the website's design. My portfolio was also super last minute (completed it an hour before the presentation was due) which is why it looks a lot more bland than I would have originally preferred. I will most likely reconstruct my portfolio to my preference after this. We also didn't get as much outside feedback as we would have liked for the website, that might of helped in shaping the visuals.
This is the first time I had bad communication in this unit, I was an active member for the previous two projects. Kieran and Jack were both very understanding and I am sure Cody would be too as he has also had communication issues this trimester. This was my only hiccup I had this trimester, I was pretty engaged for the rest of the trimester. This won't happen again as I am going to be lessening my workload after this trimester, that should rectify my end of trimester burn out.
POST CLASS REFLECTION - GROUP DYNAMICS
I'm very proud of my group and what we accomplished for Project 3. Jack, Kieran and myself had this business idea conceived within the first two weeks of starting this unit and we stuck to it at the end. Kieran and Jack's portfolio were well detailed and their contribution to this project was quite significant. Although I am not a fan of this project, I can say we most likely would not have completed it if Kieran and Jack had not stepped up.
Both of them have been mostly consistent this whole trimester, and although I already had a working friendship with Kieran, it was good to work with Jack; he's proved to be a very hard worker and carries his fair share of the workload. For all of our projects we pretty much had great communication and synergy, so I never really worried. Cody on the other hand, I gave him the benefit of the doubt as he's a friend of mine outside of SAE. Project 1 and Project 2 he was barely present and communication was at a minimum with him, he later explained his reasoning, but the rest of us agreed it would saved us more time had he told us prior.
He did step up this Project for the first half but he advised us that his workplace was getting more busy and it may effect this performance for this Project. We appreciated the honesty and were understanding, but the day of the presentation for Project 3 he informed us he wasn't going to be able to make the presentation as there was a rostering issue. This did disappoint me as he would of been absent for 2/3 presentations we had throughout the trimester. I know Cody has the protentional, but I feel he needs to work on his time management a lot more if he wants to continue studying.
In regards to our feedback, we received positive feedback from the class and Peter, much to my surprise. A lot of the feedback said they enjoyed the website's layout, design and information, while Peter said that he needed that wow factor and more explanation as to why we chose Apollo as our business and what our strengths are. When it came to my portfolio I was surprised again to realise that a lot of my peers enjoyed the layout but just wanted to see more in regards to the music I was pursuing and had created. Peter also gave feedback saying the background I use is my own psychographic, which employers will notice. I never thought of that before and will take this on board.
Overall, I'm happy with how this trimester turned out for this unit and I think it probably wouldn't of turned out as success as it had without my group. When ran into our bumps in the road throughout the time, but who doesn't? We gave the our projects the best effort we could at the time and it paid off for the most part. Project 3 is the only project where I feel we could of gone an extra mile had we better time management and communication present.
