CONTENT SUMMARY
*LAST OF THE CONTENT* This marked the final week of content for the trimester. Peter only briefly touched upon the portfolio component of the project by showing us examples of previous students portfolios and their websites for this project. His intent was just to quell some of the worries regarding the website and how a lot of the class was under the misconception that we had to build a company and website, when it was just for mock up purposes.
When showing the websites he emphasised that we could use whatever program we deemed fit to design the website so as long as we meet the project requirements. There were examples of past students using Google Sites as well. Peter mentioned that as there will be no more content to come out of this class, we had the option to choose not to attend next session if we deemed so (the option to come in was offered in the case that anyone needed to meet with Peter). The rest of the class time was given for us to work on the upcoming project and ask him whatever questions we needed.
POST CLASS REFLECTION - INDIVIDUAL PROGRESS
It was a relatively short class, but one that provided me with an answer to my portfolio problem. My portfolio was the component I was the most worried about as I felt I had nothing to show for it. Peter explained to me that I can use the projects I completed from last trimester as content for my portfolio I just have make sure that I,
Explain the processes that were involved in them.
Hard and soft skills used during the projects.
What I am currently working on, what other work I have upcoming
My goals/aspirations.
This helped me significantly as I was very unsure as to what to write in my portfolio. I am a bit ashamed knowing that I don't have as large a repertoire of work compared to my peers, but I am hoping over the next couple years and being surrounded by other creatives that will change and I'll be able to build my body of work to include in my ever expanding portfolio.
At this point, my studies are starting to pile on top of me and my stress levels are beginning to rise. Although Peter did quell my worries about the portfolio, I am noticing my motivation for this class as well as my other units starting to diminish. I am exhausted plain and simple. A full-time study load accompanied with pressure form my employer and personal issues definitely takes it's toll. I won't be doing another full-time study load for the duration of my studies, but fortunately as I have one more unit before I finish my diploma qualifications and change over to the music production and song writing course, I will have next trimester with one unit which in turn should provide me with enough motivation and engagement to focus on my studies without the stress.
POST CLASS REFLECTION - GROUP DYNAMICS
Jack and myself were the only ones in attendance today as Kieran and Cody couldn't make it and provided an excuse. Unfortunately, Jack and I forgot to create a meeting minutes document, but we also thought it was not needed as everyone understood their responsibility by this point. We were instructed to identify three possible competitors and list their strengths and weaknesses alongside the working on Project 3. Jack came up with one for a film studio and I identified two recording studios. Mine were,
Rada Studios
Strengths: Great catalogue of local and international artists they have worked with, both producers have great bodies of work, identified their niche in the market and focused on that which is indie rock.
Weaknesses: Website seems to be incomplete, there could be different design choices to get more engagement.
Magic Studios
Strengths: Provide a wide variety of different services, caters to as many psychographics and consumers in the industry.
Weaknesses: On the flip side they are spreading themselves too thin across the market and offering too many services, website is very incomplete, amateur looking and not engaging at all (missing links).
Unfortunately this week we were unable to Zoom due to scheduling issues on multiple members ends. Kieran and myself expressed our concerns regarding the project after this. We both agreed that we are starting to fall behind and with the added pressure of our other units it's going to be hard to keep up. A Zoom call next week is a priority at this point as we will not be attending the next class most likely.
