Tennis

The College Tennis Teams have had some significant success ove the last 10 years including several appearances at the Senior Students National Finals at Bolton Arena.

Tennis takes place throughout the academic year from September to July at Totally Tennis in the Memorial Park. The Club benefits from 8 tennis courts, 4 of which are indoors, and we welcome all players regardless of ability of playing experience.

Training:

Training takes place weekly for 2 hours on Wednesdays from 12:30-2:30pm. The sessions focus on technical aspects of stroke development, drills and match play.

Coaching is delivered by L4 and L5 qualified coaches and supported by PE staff member Sarah Goldson, a qualified coach and referee. Totally Tennis is also a hub for the delivery of coaching courses (U-Coach) and as such there are many opportunities to gain coaching qualifications and/or be coached by up and coming regional coaches.

Competition:

Teams vary according to number of players but in past years, the College has had boy's, girl's and mixed teams with matches taking place on Wednesday afternoons. Current competitions that the College competes in include:

  • Senior Students (capped at 7.1 rating)

  • National Cup (previously known as Glanville and Aberdare Cup)

  • AoC South East Regional Competition

  • Sixth Form Summer Doubles Competition

Other opportunities:

As a member of the British Schools Tennis Association, the College is entered in the annual ballot for Wimbledon tickets which has seen the students attend the Championships on a regular basis with tickets previously gained for both Centre Court and No 2 Court.

Cost:

£90 per year. This includes provision of facilities, transport, affiliation to British Schools Tennis and professional coaching from Totally Tennis. There is also an option to purchase a T-shirt.
