Reading

Students will develop and enhance their test preparation skills in the field of drama, acquiring the necessary knowledge and strategies to effectively and confidently prepare for assessments in the subject.

Writing

Students will engage in a hands-on learning experience, ultimately creating a comprehensive flipbook that demonstrates their understanding of these literary devices.

Math

I can use models to determine the perimeter of a rectangle using s + s+s+s=p or 2s +2s= p.

I can explain how I can choose the appropriate formula to determine the perimeter of a rectangle.

Social Studies

Students will take the Social Studies Curriculum Based Assessment that will measure students' learning over the following units:

Unit 1 (The Texas Landscape)
Unit 3 (American Indians in Texas)
Unit 4 (Exploration and Early Colonization)

I can determine how wind, water, and ice cause weathering, erosion, and deposition.

I can explain how landforms change from weathering, erosion and deposition.

Important Information

Polar Express Pajama Day is next Wednesday, Dec. 20. All students are invited to participate. Please send tennis shoes for PE and recess.

School will be closed for winter break from Dec. 22 to Jan. 8. We hope you and your family have a wonderful winter break. Happy holidays and Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing your child on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024.

Every Friday, students are invited to donate $1 to Slaughter's Relay for Life team, to wear a hat to school.

During the month of December, Slaughter's kindness and compassion club will be collecting mittens, hats, and scarves for the Samaritan Inn. Students can bring donations to the Mitten Tree in Wolf den. Thank you for helping Slaughter live kind!

The high schools in McKinney are teaming up with other McKinney schools and organizations to collect food items to feed families in need for the holidays. We're collecting the following items: canned corn, canned green beans, instant mashed potatoes, boxed Jello, instant gravy packets

Starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, regular attendance is essential for students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school. Attendance Matters!
